APLD 2022 Award Winning Landscape Design. We designed and installed this dramatic living wall / vertical garden to add a welcoming focal point, and a great way to add living beauty to the large front house wall. The wall includes a variety of succulents, grass-like and cascading plants some with flowers, (some with flowers, Oxalis, Heuchera designed to provide long cascading "waves" with appealing textures and colors. The dated walkway was updated with large geometric concrete pavers with polished black pebbles in between, and a new concrete driveway. Water-wise grasses flowering plants and succulents replace the lawn. This updated modern renovation for this mid-century modern home includes a new garage and front entrance door and modern garden light fixtures. YardDoc designed and created multiple rock landscapes for customers in Austin, TX. These drought resistant landscapes liven up your yard with unique designs and individual beauty. While we craft every landscape to the yard and customer, we present examples here to inspire you.
In this garden, we worked with the existing trees and hedges. We added ferns and succulents to round out the look. Next, we laid mulch, then placed two planters, one containing a small tree. We created a path using dark river rocks, and large, asymmetrical, flat-topped stones as a walkway through the garden. We created shallow retaining walls of natural stone, along the path, to keep mulch free of rocks and vice versa. Finally, we placed solar lights so this area remains functional and enjoyable at night.
Overall, we think this adds a wonderful, fairytale feel to this space, without the commitment to extensive maintenance and care installing a faerie garden entails.

This garden is only a year old! Thanks to quarterly applications of compost tea it is really thriving. Healthy soil makes for healthy plants and a lush look soon after planting. Bright orange kalanchoe 'Flap jacks' and aloe blossoms contrast with the subtle blues and greens from the surrounding foliage of dymondia ground cover and other succulents.

A sweeping gravel path guides you through this layered, nature-inspired backyard. The gently curved route leads to a sculptural raised patio, ideal for gathering or quiet reflection. A soon to be lush meadow fills the space with seasonal color and movement, while carefully placed stepping stones and open mulch areas provide rhythm and contrast. Trees offer filtered light throughout the day, and the evolving plant palette ensures changing interest year-round. This design balances form and feeling.

Acacia Cousin Itt, Lomandra 'Platinum Beauty', Dianella and no mow lawn create part of the overall planting palette.

This Hollywood Fairytail house had been lovingly restored, all but the garden! We demolished everything in the front garden and designed a new gracious porch with a checkerboard design in concrete tiles, new low water landscaping with drip irrigation and meandering paths of flagstone, a recirculating fountain and rain garden. Added fruit trees, native and climate appropriate plants and a walkable low water Ruschia area for kids and dogs.

This front yard went from water hogging grass and old school roses, to a flourishing native garden. Highlighted here is a multi trunk Arbutis undo, commonly called a Strawberry tree. Valued for it's deep red bark, blush, pink lantern shaped blossoms and edible red fruits.

Dune Sedge grows in between and around the pavers that lead to the patio. A Hong Kong Orchard tree is planted behind the custom wood bench - when mature it will provide shade. A palette of purple and yellow reigns in this garden with a mixture of Lilac Verbena, Spanish Lavender, Catmint, Yellow Bulbine and more.
