“We had no prior relationship with Oakwood, but were impressed with the quality of staff that we dealt with, from the first contact through to the finished renovation. We needed a variance to be allowed to obtain the proper permits and John Liptak, owner of Oakwood was instrumental in obtaining this on our behalf. Without his personal interest in our renovation, we would not have proceeded with the project. John also gave us the benefit of his years of experience with various suggestions for our room. Our design specialist was wonderful, offering many unique ideas for us to consider, always offering various solutions to meet our budget. We particularly love the windows and paneling in our great room. The quality of the work was top notch. The wood craftsman assigned to our project did an exceptional job on the ceiling beams and the paneling. Dave’s work makes this room so beautiful and unique. The project manager was very knowledgeable and worked on our behalf to make sure that all the little details were dealt with to our satisfaction. Trent was very responsive to our needs and concerns. We can speak to Oakwood’s integrity and professionalism. They wanted the addition to be a room that we would be take pleasure and pride in for many years to come. “We contracted with Open Concept Home Design in 2012 to design and build a major addition to our modest 1400 sf bungalow. We met with five other design build companies in the area but were most impressed with OCHD. The design process was handled by Niels, the owner, and it was a fun collaborative process that resulted in a floor plan that met all of our wish list with a beautiful exterior that seemlessly integrated the existing structure. Our home was transformed from a cramped little house to a gracious living space with room to entertain large crowds, closets everywhere (!), a beautiful master bedroom and ensuite and a huge kitchen and adjacent dining area. The end result was everything we wanted and more, on time and on budget (they are known for tight cost control). The building process was extremely well executed with constant oversight by OCHD to ensure that no detail was overlooked. OCHD took care of everything, we only had to make the fun decisions like choosing finishes or paint colours, but even there we were given lots of suggestions when we couldn't decide or were suffering from "decision exhaustion". Yet if we wanted to make changes along the way, those were easily accommodated. If you are a homeowner contemplating a renovation or new build, you would do well to at least meet with OCHD for a free consult. Reasonable construction costs, excellent design sense, a great client-builder relationship, and most importantly a beautiful final product - your new home! We had done our research and were full of ideas on what we wanted in a home. Our dream home was not simple, curved walls, interesting roof lines, timber frame beams, oversized windows and doors, a massive fireplace, Jim made it all come to life on paper. Some of Jim's best attributes were his calm manner, promptness and availability. He was always reachable or prompt in getting back if we or our general contractor had a question or an issue. This was so reassuring especially when you are in the thick of a project of this magnitude. Building a home from scratch is never easy, but Jim helped simplify some decision making.
