“My husband's grandfather is going to come live with us so we can give him more care as he ages. We hired Stephen to design a master bed/bath addition that has ADA-accessibility for Grandpa, as well as a kitchen & dining remodel on our small, ~925 sq ft, 2 bed, 1 bath 1935 cottage. We are still in the process of finalizing the design and are getting ready to hire a contractor for the project. Stephen has been great to work with so far. “After losing our home in Santa Rosa in the 2017 fires, we decided to rebuild and chose Salt Shed Design and Build. We chose them because we knew they could take this project from start to finish and because we loved the contemporary California design they are famous for and quality of construction they can provide. In the chaotic post fire environment of our area, the Salt Shed team proved to be the steady and reliable entity we needed. We worked with a team of professionals in their specific fields that guided us through the innumerable choices and decisions since the very start. We had no experience building a home and did not know what to expect. In addition we were quite shaken and in shock after loosing our home and its contents so suddenly. Everybody at Salt Shed was always responsive and patient with us. We communicated with them weekly through emails, texts, teleconferences, and in person. Communication is key in this long and complicated process, and the team assigned to our project showed there is a strong network among them and a solid company structure. “We live in the Meadowridge house which we bought from Gary in 2000. He had designed and built the house in 1994. We had him add on to the house, converting the garage to another room and building a new garage. My wife and I love the house. In fact we are expanding again adding space to the garage and putting two bedrooms above the garage along with other changes. Gary had left the area so we are using another architect/builder. But we have continued his designs in the new addition. My comments refer to The original house and addition. The design is fantastic. The best attribute is the sky lights that run run the length of the house in both directions. These make the house what it is! The use of wood (aspen ceilings, vertical pine logs, sand blasted wood trim around the doors, etc.) and stone (entry way and some outside walls) give the house an outdoors feel inside. Several rooms/closets do not have doors giving an openness to the house. We love the vaulted ceilings leading up to the sky lights that emphasizes this openness. He also used interior windows to light up areas that would not receive sunlight. In short we love his architectural ideas as expressed in our house. We have lived in the house for 12 years and have had no structural issues in spite of heavy winter snows. -Cres Fleming”
