Sankhara is a Buddhist word meaning, “that which has been put together, brings together”. "Sankhara" is made up of the words ‘together, making and doing’. Sankhara Co is all about making high quality, individually hand crafted products, using sustainable materials. These pieces last a lifetime, gather together family and friends, and respect our environment. Our design philosophy is simple; create beautiful, unique and functional pieces using sustainable materials. We believe in handmade, in slowing down and living simply and thoughtfully. Evan Hughes, a licensed Carpenter with 16 years experience in residential construction and heritage restorations, has recently expanded his carpentry and joinery services to bespoke furniture, and custom installations, therefore founding Sankhara Co. A highly skilled maker, Evan has an eye for detail. Often his pieces are crafted using materials sourced from clients' own home renovations, therefore keeping the materials in the family and bringing the design process full circle. When he isn’t working with wood you will find Evan hanging out with his other half ‘wifey’ (Natalie) and his two cattle dogs Chook and Charlie. At Sankhara Co we make everything from beds and custom shelving to burnished Douglas fir coffee tables and recycled stringy-bark chopping boards, along with custom installations including kitchens, decking and timber paneling.
