We probably had a slightly unconventional request — we mainly wanted someone to help us visually realise what our recently purchased house could become. Kathy initially came out to inspect the house, take measurements, and really understand the space. From there, she created visuals for each room and provided ideas for brands, joinery, colour schemes, and finishes. She then answered our endless questions and provided direction as we painted, procured items and settled into the space. One of the things she did especially well was navigate the different design preferences between my spouse and me. She was able to find a balance and create solutions that we both genuinely loved, which made the whole process feel collaborative and enjoyable rather than stressful. “Margot is a consummate professional. Our apartment renovation project could have veered or erred many times but Margot kept us on track. I subscribe to the Steve Jobs-ism that design is in fact about how things work, not about how things look. And vis-a-vis our reno project, we needed Margot not to decorate but to actually think through how all the spaces work. That's an interior designer. And that she did. I believe that my spouse and I came up with a fairly coherent brief. We had a budget in mind, and were designing to that budget, we knew the use cases of the apartment (WFH studio during the day, creche in the afternoon, cinema at night) and did some thinking through many of these elements before we came to Margot. So I think we got a great deal of value from MKD by virtue of the fact that from signing the contract we could skip the conceptual mumbo jumbo and just dive straight into details. If you are looking to hire someone who will deliver the trendiest interior at an unknown price and you don't have to do any of the work as a client then MKD may not be for you. If you want quality design overseen by someone who keeps a sharp eye on the budget and is eager to deliver outstanding value to the client than I cannot recommend MKD highly enough.”
