She has an excellent eye for design of both landscapes and hardscapes and we could not be more thrilled with the end product of her work. A Garden Guy, Inc. Landscape Design
Edible Gardens Services in Zion, IL
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars28 December 2013
“My fiancée and I recently purchased a house and began the process of making it our own. One of the projects, which are ongoing, is to liven up our backyard. Earlier in the year, a garden guy planted 50+ flowers/shrubs along the perimeter of the backyard. An additional recommendation was to install a vintage whiskey barrel to catch rainwater. Overall, the look of the backyard has been greatly enhanced and we have received many compliments, especially on the whiskey barrel. A garden guy is a pleasure to work with, knowledgeable and fair on pricing. Next year, we plan on using him for work along our driveway, as well as the installation of landscape lighting.”
Pat Bernard Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars4 June 2013
“I highly recommend Pat Bernard Design, Inc. In the summer of 2009, I hired Pat Bernard Design to transform an underused front patio into a relaxing garden and entertaining space. The results where outstanding. For reference, the front patio is below ground level as part of my garden unit condo. Originally the patio was just a brick floor with some common shrubs around the edges - very drab and uninspiring. Pat Bernard’s re-design incorporated a stone seating wall that enclosed and bordered raised flower, plant and tree beds, thus providing the perfect combination of entertainment seating and low maintenance shade plants/flowers and trees without using too much square footage. The Japanese maple trees that Pat chose and planted are the patio garden's pride and joy! Pat also installed low-voltage lighting which really highlights the trees, plants and flowers during the evening while also providing a sense of calm and relaxation. In terms of execution, Pat and her team were prompt, timely, thorough, communicative, professional and courteous throughout the entire process. Since originally hiring Pat Bernard in 2009, I have had Pat return each spring/fall for regular maintenance of the patio garden’s soil, plants, trees and flowers and the patio garden always benefits from her expertise! I stopped counting the number of compliments that the patio garden has received since 2009 because the number is so high. I have recommended Pat Bernard to friends who saw the work she did in transforming my patio garden and subsequently hired Pat to transform their garden/lawn spaces, each time with satisfactory results. I always like to say that Pat Bernard’s design and installation transformed a below ground level patio garden from an underwhelming pit into a relaxing garden paradise!”
The Barn: Landscape + Architecture
Edible Gardens Services in Zion, IL
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars15 November 2013
“From our first meeting with Tom Kusmerz, The Barn Nursery, we were sold on working with that company and looked no further. Through conversation and walking around on our property, Tom was able to create a hardscape design concept that we just loved. Our retaining wall was failing and we needed to redesign the whole thing. With his help we chose natural stone that blended well with our existing house brick and pool decking and gave us both the color and natural look we were after. Tom worked with our pool and concrete contractors so everything on our project was done in the right order and no one had to wait on someone else. With Tom's design on our retaining wall and how the base materials were installed, we were able to reduce the costs of our concrete decking repair by half of the original bid and we have a beautiful, natural looking retaining wall that will last forever. The crews working on our project from The Barn Nursery were great. I looked forward to their arrival every morning. They were neat, efficient, friendly and very hard working. I could tell that they really took pride in their workmanship and the job came out beautifully. My family and I look forward to their return in the spring to help us with our plantings. It was a truly great experience working with this company and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.”

“Doering Landscaping re-did our entire back patio because it was in such disrepair when we first bought our house. They were very professional to work with, they knew exactly what we wanted in our back patio, and they were quick to get their work done. I plan on hiring them again next year to put in a built-in firepit. I would recommend them to anyone.”
Apex Landscaping, Inc.
Edible Gardens Services in Zion, IL
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars27 March 2018
“Apex was hired after competitive bids and reference checks to design and install 10 corners and two large planting beds in our Townhouse complex. The Designer and Project Manager was Mike Burkland. Apex collaborated with our Landscape Committee to produce a design that more than satisfied our requirements. Mike stayed on top of every aspect of the implementation, assuring that staff, plants, sod, outcropping stone etc. were first rate. His crew was terrific and he deserves special recognition for his follow thru. If all contractors performed like Mike and Apex, our Association would be a dream to manage.”
