What colour to paint a fibro cottage by the river
Comments (58)Thanks for asking.. I am so happy.. the house was so decayed so we decided to rebuild the same look of a 100 year old cottage but move all the living to the front for the river view.. so happy we did it and went for light grey and white and yellow.. so pleased and we have people in the park comment.. we could not go any bigger because of council and flood zone but it makes it special as it is. Some pictures I just took.. I took a picture of the outlook so you can see why it feels just right.. still work to do as in the gardens and just finding the right plants to put in as it is full sun. Will ask for help on that one too to make it feel cottagey but not block the view. Thanks again for asking. Karen...See MoreBeach shack revamp - need opinions!!
Comments (20)Wow love some of those pics Siriuskey! Thank you for the ideas. I struggle with whether to keep walkways 'clear' in this house - for example the two doors either side of kitchen and the deck door all create these weird walkways. (See arrows on drawings) Is it a smart move to 'block' them with say a couch, or an island bench, or the dining table? (See random furniture placement in pictures showing these options) I have uploaded a drawing with the current walls that we propose removing in green highlighter and showing where the current front door is. As you can see it's a wasted space and strange detour past laundry toilet and storage! I have sketched what I think you mean by entry next to bed 3- would you leave a small office room to one side and create a hallway or leave open and place miners lounge against west wall. Am I interpreting it all as you imagined?!...See More1950s Fibro to cottage
Comments (5)first repair the leak and repaint the trim then remove the plants beside the steps and consider adding wider steps and a new floor in the porch with decking, pressure wash footpath and consider painting the path to complement the existing colour scheme (deeper peach colour?) which will help emphasise the great looking white door which is more than enough decoration with the small table and some fresh new plants away from the steps..it's already a good looking house without the extra frills...See MoreHelp with '50s weatherboard paint colours
Comments (14)Picture 1 , I can't tell if that is tree branches or timber rot showing on the front right area ? Anyway , I quite the colours , they are quite period and suit the house . Having said that , if you do have to replace weather boards and repaint , then my response would be different , BUT assuming they come up okay with a pressure wash , I'd stick with them . What I would change is the barge board around the top , and the wrought iron -- I'd go charcoal on both . I just feel it would freshen and balance the look . Then I'd do some landscaping -- 5 or 6 two metre tall shrubs/trees , maybe a bark garden or white chip stone . Wait a year or two , and re-evaluate ....See MoreCee
