In which house would love to celebrate the Melbourne Cup?
Comments (17)I love the races and I do bet, big time $1.00 each way on my fave numbers, whichever jockey is wearing purple or a horse name I like the sound of. Have been known to lash out on Melb cup day with a $10 bet, just for a bit of fun. I go to local luncheon and buy some sweeps its all in fun and most functions are in aid of a charity. you have a nice meal a couple of drinks, play some games, sometimes watch a fashion parade. Then later watch the race that stops the nation. A fun day out. Oh, also get dressed up wear your finest hat and maybe win a bottle of wine. All good fun. One day to go to the Melbourne Cup the crowds dress crazy and have a great time. I have been to Sydney's Rosehill for the Golden Slipper but nothing on the Melbourne Cup. As for the alternative a deserted island, golden sand, and calm blue ocean, laying on my hammock with a fruity cocktail sounds devine....See MoreCLOSED: Vote Now! Koala x Houzz
Comments (21)Oh wow - Can't believe the bachelor pad was selected as one of the 12! I quietly use Houzz for home tips & inspiration for my office and bedroom. Now we're designing + building our forever home and are overwhelmed in all honesty. Looking forward to becoming a verbal part of your community and gaining words of wisdom. Anyone else find being an adult terrifying? Ha....See MorePOLL: How much do your interiors influence your mood?
Comments (26)I live with a beautiful sea view which I love, but which presents its own set of challenges. When we moved in the interior was painted grey but on an overcast day, all I see out the window is grey - grey sky, grey sea and when I turned around there were grey walls as well. It was quite oppressive. We’ve repainted a lovely soft white which isn’t too dazzling on a bright day, but definitely lifts the gloom on a dull day. I’ve added punches of bright colour here and there and now I love my space (and my view in all weathers)...See MoreVote, pros and cons of the chosen colours
Comments (20)Interior , as dreamer says , is personal to you , but also I always think interior colours that I notice are the furniture and fittings -- the seating , the lamps , the art , the blankets , the rugs , the curtains , etc . Exterior though is what everyone sees , which is why I am always amazed that new build suburbs every house is done in 7 shades of bland ( aka greys ) . On a positive note , with your doors and that stone , grey will look cold and horrible on the exterior . On another post , I said what I'd do with the garage door -- add some colour ! And as far as the rest -- go with a couple of warm whites IMO -- while surfmist and similar with a blue tinge are popular , and cream is way too dated , I'd keep away from both . Hard to get a warm white without getting some cream tones I know , but whatever shade you decide on ( sort of a modern antique cream similar to the existing colour would be a good starting point , or even a slight mushroomy tone ) , do that on the 'sticky out' parts , then a half version around the garage , and then either quarter on the left double height wall , OR go a beigy sandy tone , even a light copper , for contrast . Just 1 thing -- those windows on the left ( both levels ) need 'something' . Personally I think they should have been charcoal or bronze , but too late now , so maybe 40-60mm of charcoal around the outside of each window , with the windows as they are in that white or cream -- just something to lift that area . Another option that would work may be battens in the same timber tones as your doors , probably double height -- 5 or 6 over each pair of windows . It should n't cut down views and light too much , it will 'finish' that side better , and of course ties the whole design in better ....See MoreJamieson
