Kitchen Help!
Comments (20)Great kitchen hashleigh. Your kitchen is a workhorse room, it is all about you, how you use it, what you need, functional and attractive so you enjoy being there, but not "pretty". Keep what you need in the room because you need it to be functional. Your brick is a feature of the room, it is a lovely brick, so if you like it keep it. Painting it can be a lot of upkeep. I don't know what is involved with whitewashing or what the upkeep is but do look into that aspect before making any decision. Looking at the rest of the space, the brick does only look a small part of it, it breaks up the timber on the other walls in a natural way. Looking at the whole of the area too, I do note you have a lot of really beautiful timber with furniture and fittings in the adjoining room and the ceilings. Everything is so cohesive, I'm wondering if even painting the timber is the right thing to do. I would certainly never paint the window frames or the door for example when everything else through the whole house is stained. Looking at the other photos you have posted now, the only thing I would be confident about changing are the splashback tiles - maybe that is a place to put some vibrant colour to change the whole effect of the room. A painted glass spashback in a brighter shade of the bluish tones in the brick could really add some life to the room, and the glass will not add another texture, it will more add some bling. I think you actually need to be in your home to really get a feel for everything and for this reason, I would call some interior designers to give you professional opinions before you do anything with the cupboards. Someone mentioned above about giving them a scrub - I have timber panelling and about every 5 years I use steel wool to rub oil into the grain to protect the timber and give it a whole new lease of life. It really makes a difference....See MoreKitchen help please! - cabinet advice needed
Comments (37)Hi iggs85 as it is an older kitchen I would not spend a huge amount of money on a revamp. It is definitely possible to paint laminate but good preparation is vital to ensure the paint 'sticks'. However a quality painter is going to charge you about the same as your resurfacing quote. Using either a painter or a resurfacing company does let you choose any colour though. The biggest disadvantage of the current benchtop is the bullnose which is very dated. From your photo, the colour and pattern look OK but you could get a stone 'overlay' put on it. They square off the bullnose so it looks more contemporary. An acrylic feature panel on the return is another alternative to vinyl planks. It looks like glass, comes in a good range of colours and is relatively inexpensive compared to glass. See http://zenolite.com/range as an example. You can buy acrylic sheets from Bunnings. You could also use pressed metal panels as a feature eg. http://www.wunderlite.com.au/catalogue/details/1/79/pressed-metal-crystal?start=25 Add some new handles on doors and drawers too....See MoreDark cabintry in Kitchen, help with colour
Comments (19)Hi. Just want to say that in my opinion matt white is a good choice for the top cabinetry as opposed to glossy. I've had both and much prefer matt as it does not show the finger prints. I believe it is also a more modern look. I think mine is not quite matt, but has a slight sheen. Love the idea of the darker contrast, I think it will look smashing. Best wishes. sydneymidge...See MoreBlack Kitchen help wanted
Comments (3)If you are after an all black style kitchen I have several recomendations: 1. I recently used Caesarstones "Night sky" as the countertop complemented with Naval Sandblasted "Black Pearl" laminate for the joinery. It looked fantastic and was very sleek. I also incorporated matt black sink and tapwear to keep it clean and minimal and then the surrounding walls were lexicon half. Hopefully we will have photos of it soon to show you but the progress looks fantastic!
