double oven vs single oven?
Comments (28)Thank you all for your timely responses. I too have always enjoyed the convenience of my two ovens which can be used independently of each other, which is why I am seriously considering the 1.5 double oven option. I have also researched the idea of two compact ovens which include microwave and steam options, (Bosch, Miele, Smeg AEG etc) and was all excited about that idea, but to install two of these is far too expensive. ($5000+ minimum) The freestanding convection microwave options all stipulate minimum 10-20cm airflow at the top of the unit, and the ones that do come with trim kits still all end up being too large for the space...frustratingly, often by only 2 or 3 cm! And yes, I've also lusted after an induction cooktop, but the expense of chasing wiring down a solid brick wall and disrupting backsplash tiling has put the kybosh on that idea. Anyhow, I have slept on this (again!) and have come to the conclusion that a 1.5 oven without an integrated microwave is the only way available at a reasonable cost.... A small microwave inside a cupboard might just work.... It's both interesting and noteworthy that convection/microwave +/- steam, with regular multifunction oven combinations although expensive, are readily available in several brands in the US......I'm jealous!...See MoreOvens - Miele, Bosch or Siemens
Comments (33)I would highly recommend AVOIDING a siemens oven. We bought a normal oven, along with a combo steam oven, about 6 years ago. The whole time we kept getting faults on our steam oven and after every fix the error would come back, or a different error code would pop up. After 3 years the top heating element fell loose because the screws holding it in place completely rusted and left a hole into the oven cavity. The oven had to be replaced, which was a nightmare to organise, but we eventually got them to agree/organise. Another 3 years down the track and we have had the same issue with the rusted cavity top! I have since found other reviews stating the same issue. We had issues with our siemens gas cooktop also, however in fairness, after a service technician fixed those it has performed well enough. You would expect, paying so much, that an oven would last more than 3 years. We designed our new kitchen around these appliances, and our other oven will now not match a new steam oven. They have offered us a refund of our originally paid price, which is far less than what the oven costs now. I'm extremely disappointed, we will be left substantially out of pocket and with an oven that does not suit our kitchen. Aside from that, their ovens don't even cook well - things don't seem to crisp up as well as they used to in my much cheaper previous oven. Don't be fooled by the sleek design like we were....See MoreAnyone used a convection microwave oven? Does it work well?
Comments (10)this is my present kitchen with stacked built in microwave above wall oven...perfect height for me to be able to look inside both ovens and also safely lift plates and baking dishes in and out onto the counter without bending my old knees...i based the height of installation on my line of sight (in my average shoes!!) being about mid height on the microwave (a little higher than the bottom of the wall cabinets at standard 150cm above the floor) so, check the sizes of your proposed ovens and specifically ask your cabinet maker to install them to suit the cook (my cook top is also off centred to create more space for using the mixer and food processor and the counters are 5cms deeper than standard so you should consult the cabinet maker and you can have the kitchen that suits you best)...See MoreNeff or Bosch Induction cooktop
Comments (11)To be honest i haven't used it much without the dial, only when i switch it to fry pan setting (love that feature) and on/off but i feel its much better quality than the previous Bosch and Fisher and paykel cooktops ive used. It just responds straight away. Yes i find it doesnt cut out unless there is quite a lot of overflow from pots whereas when i had a bosch it drove me nuts as it seemed to stop just with a small amount of water and even after i had mopped it up it took ages before being able to use it again. This is one of the downsides of induction, but there are lots of advantages and certainly doesnt bother me nearly as much now. In terms of size, mine only has 3 hotplates, which i deliberated over for some time as most have at least 4, i worked out that i only probably.want to use 4 at once one time a year and i havent regretted it. But only you know if you need all going at once and how big your pots are. I dont use the extra features much, like the flex zone but when i do they are fantastic. I couldn't cook gravy in a baking pan on the stove top without it. Mine has a little silver strip around the outside which is slightly lower than the cooktop which needs to be wiped down properly after each use to avoid food getting stuck but not a deal breaker. PS i absolutely love my Neff oven, the food comes out perfect every time at the exact time. Would absolutely recommend the oven. I dont have the steam one, but i do have the door that tucks inside the oven when open and its a genius idea, so easy to access inside. Would definitely buy another Neff as far superior to any other ive used....See More- 10 years ago
