I suggest you go to a Murobond Paint Store and get help there from the trained women. They specialise in paint for render or brick. Grey will go out of fashion eventually.

North is better as the house walls would get more heat in summer. But if there is concrete or traditional paving up to the footings, once you then have rendered walls, you have the issue of dampness where moisture cant get away.

There is nothing wrong with the brick colour of your home. The existing facade will last the test of time far better than rendering. Be happy with it.

There is another way other than painting your brick or cement rendering. It is called 'The German Smear Technique' It is like a whitewash over the brick and looks fantastic. This way the bricks would still breathe. Depends if you are fixing your house up to sell or live in.

I agree with those who point out the fashion for rendering brickwork and painting it grey will pass quite soon; it has already been around for years. You could still do it, of course, but should expect to pay out more in a few years' time to update to another trend.

I'd say the same thing about wanting a Hamptons look for your house.

I have a red brick house too,with a very ugly street facing facade (its built to face the sun, not look pretty from the street). Rather than altering the brick I am looking at what can be done from a landscaping perspective to draw attention away from the brick. You could do the same. Lift the concrete and install a garden on that brick corner, then use tall and colourful plants to cover the brick areas. A beautiful garden will add more value to your home then an expensive to maintain, dated brick render.

personally I like the house the way it is. Brick is easy care ... your brick colour is not an ugly colour and things seem to blend in nicely. Why would you cover something that shows no imperfections to something that will require maintenance over time. If anything I would just paint your garage doors to the same colour as your roof.

I just looked at some Aerial shots of The Gong, and couldn't see many. Do you mean far inland, where it is higher and cooler?
