Street Appeal HELP! - Front color scheme for cottage
Comments (19)While you are saving up for a whole house paint job - 1. Work out the exterior colour-scheme. 2. Paint the pickets around the base is the house, yourselves, if possible. I agree that it should be a dark colour, that works with your chosen final scheme. 3. Prepare garden beds along the front, choose appropriate shrub species and plant ASAP, with possibly something taller sweeping up to the left (of the photo) to break the strong horizontal "box" look. If you decide to change the stairs at some stage, you may have to remove a plant or two, but at least there will be an inviting entrance growing happily in the meantime. Have fun :)...See MoreWill our Renovation Look Appealing from the Street?
Comments (9)Having a closer look at the house, it could be possible to replace the small window next to your fireplace on the left with a door, and still enclosing the side if the garage, I would also install a timber balustrade form the original front door between all posts, so hat door could remain, but be within an enclosed walk corridor rather than wLk our onto a drive. The ballustrading could become a real feature, and be somewhat of an enclosed verandah if people were en lined to need fresh air, or may want to pollute it with a cigarette?? Either way, it will make better use of this side of the home, your windows are too beautiful to conceal and the light they bring in would be priceless. I think removing the brush front fence and installing a picket fence further beyond your front window could tie into the new balustrade m suggesting, and create a new front of house, and still enclose enough behind this feneline for a private and safe yard. I think I can see a timber gate or fence? This is where I would at a minimum put the new picket fence. Maybe say 1500mm high, which is still a nice view fence height from the street but dprivate enough not to see clothes hanging etc. Glad I could be of some help....See MoreUpdate Façade / Street Appeal
Comments (10)From the look of the under whelming front Stairs the house looks about 450mm (3 steps) or so off the the ground. So could make more of a presence redo the front door entry / stairs quite cheaply with a timber deck that starts at the front door wraps around the each side if the house a bit, then flows down onto the entry path and terraces down the sides. Along with the other suggestion of painting the front door a brighter colour would create character lift the entry nicely. Does the front of the house face north or If your budget allowed a narrow deck say 1.2m (with pergola) along the entire front would transform the place entirely....See MoreHelp: Improve street appeal with no front door
Comments (9)Have to agree with Oklouise, keep side entry as is but define with new paving within carport leading up to the front door.,Add clear roofing next to house leading to entry, large pots and good directional lighting for night time to draw you to the front door. I would remove the large plant on the left of the carport to open up the entrance. Mark walkway to front door with paving, paint or render the bedroom wall at the end of the carport add a light and large pot of succulents which are easy care and will love the light coming through the new roof Paint and update the exterior of the carport Opening roof by Stratco Outback, or Vergola Pergola to let light in over entrance way...See MoreMick V
