Painting over cabinet doors can be tricky, depending on what material you're painting over. An easier alternative is just to replace the doors and drawers, and you can do this very cost-effectively by going for a plain melamine colour like this: If you have open cabinets instead of open shelves, it helps to keep the dust off but they still look great. Or you could go for wall cabinets either side like this:

Hi Carolyn, "pivoting pocket doors" by Hafele I believe is the product that you are seeking/referring. There are other manufacturer alternatives too, however take note, don't skimp on this stuff, you either spend the money on the good gear, or don't bother.... the quality hardware is not cheap, however in the right situation you can certainly justify it/ is worth the expense when you consider the function - you're absolutely correct in regards to the impracticality of having hinged doors opening out and a nuisance to work around, particularly in main thoroughfares - the success of these european laundries ultimately relies upon the detail and capacities to integrate this sort of hardware/cabinetry function. The specific manufacturer will suggest the required clearances, and it depends upon the width of door being used, but think as an approx about 70-80mm each side give or take to set up the "pocket" for the door to slide into. So you'll need to factor in about 150mm in the overall length of the laundry cupboard/set-up .......hope this helps. Cheers PD :)

Its going to stick out no matter what you do. Is there no budget to reface the cupboard doors and drawers? My Only Suggestion is to not do a White Gloss and instead use a Ravine laminate or a totally different colour and use the colour somewhere else in the kitchen like the off cuts for a frame for some artwork. Or on the kicks. If its going to stick out, and it will, then go all out. The next best option is go to a joinery company ask if you can take some off cuts out of the bin, make a temporary shelf and save up so you can do everything at the one time. If you redo the kitchen you will end up redoing that cabinet to get a consistent colour. Even with colour matching there is still slight differences because one is new and the other is old.
