Windows Bathrooms Building a Home

Hi all interested to know if anyone has a bathroom without a window? Our proposed plan allow for a skylight only and worried about ventilation. The pnly other option was to have a study woth no windows not sure what is worse as I work from home

I have no window neither does my sister. Have a little bit of mould in silicon as kids leave shower wet. My childless sister is more diligent and does not. I hung a landscape up to give a ‘view’ and stop it feeling so cell like.

.we have an internal bathroom with a Solar skylight and use combined ceiling light with heater and exhaust fan in a windowless bathroom with no problem and you could also research ventilating skylights and roof windows...keep the window in the study for long hours of daytime work at home....

What are the dimensions of the existing room without walls, where are the windows, in the toilet and over the vanity in the shower room? 3M x 3M what are we working with. If you remove all the walls except the linen cupboard and does the linen cupboard also have hall access? If so get the linen opening out of the bathroom and have doors to hall side, which will make both elements work better. I know toilets in main bathrooms are not everyone's cup of tea, but if you can have a 720 door from i take it, a hall, run a custom made vanity unit, and it must be custom made to fit exactly the space available, and take it from hall and over the toilet cistern, which should be a concealed cistern, maintenance panel is the flush plate, and just pan is displayed. Two vanities if needed, one bigger one is more on trend, and hang the cabinets off the floor under the vanity top, to make it look longer and makes cleaning under the cabinet so much easier. That leaves a lot of space for the bath where the second vanity unit is now, which would look fantastic as a freestanding type. A simple frameless glass or semi frameless glass shower screens, allow access to bath, so it might be say 1M wide, if you install those long grid type floor wastes and the shower is long enough you might get away without a shower door. New taps nice big tiles to ceiling and this will look sweet. Close off the toilet and it becomes a bit of a rabbit warren. R

yes but I think it depends what market you are likely to be seeking in. if it's not family home market but more up market retirees then a glam spacious bathroom will win more plaudits from buyers than a cramped make-do space. I just strongly feel you should design your bathroom so it is a pleasure to use every day not just the one day a year you may want a bath (plus much as I like the style of bathroom Siriuskey has posted they really don't beg out for bathing in). But a vanity space where you can even have your own toothpaste if you like stripey and he likes plain and all stored neatly away so they never have to appear on display together and with a shower you can lift your arms up in is priceless if you ask me.

Yes thank you for your thoughts. the room is 2.8 (with window) vs 3.4m. I do find it a bit annoying too as I don't like that you open the door and see straight away into the shower (though I'm certain the door would have a lock). I'm sure they lined the bath up to be with the window as visually that looks better, but then I find the space at the end annoying. I like the alternative drawings (I like three of them lots!) and I had been considering an drop in bath built wall to wall rather than a freestanding but also finding it frustrating to find a really nice supportive bath and there are less drop in baths than freestanding around at the moment which is a bit annoying. Thanks Anna for the picture, that helps as that looks good (though we would have more space at either end, 50cm) and I prefer the look of yours with some space but not as cavenous... I think I might have to have a talk with my husband as we really need to work out what to do!!

Thanks all, lots to think about, I like the plan that has the bath and shower area together however im not sure if im willing to give up my cupboard space, can never have enough storage and i was considering taking that cupboard out across the existing toilet door and making it a larger cupboard. I might end up going with the bath in current position and move the vanity to beside the door but il think it over and way up the costs etc. Thanks for the input 😊.

Before the bathroom renovation, I had a bathroom without a window. Then I redesigned my bathroom and added a window. Now my bathroom looks so beautiful. If anyone has a bathroom without a window, I think you should upgrade your bathroom and add a window.

Hi Belinda,

Your bathroom would look better with a window but for smaller bathrooms, window placement can add limitation to yourbathroom layout. If it's possible, adding a skylight is a good option as it offers a wide range of advantages, including letting in a lot of natural light, enhancing ventilation, and lowering condensation and mould growth. But in case you can't add a skylight, consider equipping your bathroom with smart appliances. For example, adding a led mirror with anti-fog functions to make it always dry and shiny or asmart toilet to improve sanitation with auto flushing, increase safety with a nightlights feature, and bring a sense of comfort with seat temperature control.

Most apartment bathrooms don't have windows and we never even noticed a difference. Our fan and light was on a sensor and the fan kept running for 5 mins after no movement was detected to make sure all the steam was sucked up
