Go with a more neutral patterned traditional fabric for the chair, add a headboard to your bed with the same fabric, or if not the headboard, purchase taller lamps & shades to give a more overall "height" to the room. ok hubby tucked in bed now. where was i? this is gonna sound crazy, but i read this once and adored, just have not gotten enough jeans yet. a woven jeans rug! but not the old timey wrap in a circle type. This is like those pot holders we used to make on a loom...you know you go over and under, I can only find the pic on pinterest, and they won't let me download. I also like recycled leather like belts, maybe you could them as an edging. I would make my rug square I think. i am also constantly trying to come up with ideas for old ties. You get them cheap enough and they can be so cool. but you have to mix them with something?

You have a mixed colour palette & an eclectic range of furniture which means that you will end up with a very interesting room indeed. First suggestion: reposition rug so that all of the sofa sits on it equidistantly. At the moment your main colours are: chocolate; white; tan and grey from your sofa, entertainment unit, dining table, kitchen etc. These colours always look great together particularly if they are teamed up with black. So I think if you choose the right artwork with these colours; add copper items to top of your tables and choose cushions in these tones the whole room will come together. You will successfully mix old and new & it won’t be too bold for your taste. Note: artwork should be purchased first & be landscape in orientation. Could your existing artwork hang in the kitchen or hallway as it would be seen from the main room? To give you an idea of what I mean see pic below. Not suggesting that these items are what you would personally choose but focus on the colours and how everything is tied together. PS you could put some of your ornaments on the coffee table.

Hi all, I decided to bit the bullet and take up the tiles and put floorboards all the way through. It has been difficult at times with tradesmen, weather etc don't think you will hear of me being a contestant on the "the block" anytime soon!!! I feel comfortable with my decisions along with all your help. Waiting until next year to renovate the main bathroom and carpets in the bedrooms and north facing lounge.
