Bathroom Layout

Suggestions on layouts for this small main bathroom? Requirements are for it to include a shower, bath, toilet and basin. Would like to avoid a shower bath combo if possible. Window on the left opposite door (right). Having difficulty making sure there are enough clearances and also making sure toilet is not the first thing you see when walking in.

Not sure exactly but its just a small window halfway up the wall, maybe around 1m square. This could be tiled up if required as there is very little natural light on that side of the house.

yes but I think it depends what market you are likely to be seeking in. if it's not family home market but more up market retirees then a glam spacious bathroom will win more plaudits from buyers than a cramped make-do space. I just strongly feel you should design your bathroom so it is a pleasure to use every day not just the one day a year you may want a bath (plus much as I like the style of bathroom Siriuskey has posted they really don't beg out for bathing in). But a vanity space where you can even have your own toothpaste if you like stripey and he likes plain and all stored neatly away so they never have to appear on display together and with a shower you can lift your arms up in is priceless if you ask me.

"I've been advised that a freestanding bath and a separate shower is a nightmare to clean." I don't know you can generelise about that as it depends on the materials and the nooks and crannies of the design. One thing about freestanding baths is I've seen so many installed not freestanding but pushed against a wall. But there are 'freestanding' styles these days designed for against walls and in corners, avoiding the hard to reach gap at the back. Who is going to be using the bathroom? Is climbing over the side of the tub to have a shower going to be difficult or a nuisance? Is space needed for a lot of cleansing products or a few? What about towel rails?

For a budget Reno I’d repair the wall with the leak. Luckily it’s outside the wet zone and you can open it up and repair without having to match tiles. I’d consider replacing the whole wall with a VJ Product. I’d then keep all the fixtures in the same place and essentially not disturb the structure of the rest of the bathroom. Using tile paint I’d paint all the tiles, replace the tap, rails, light and shower screen. With new paint and new decor you’ll have something that looks good, works, and doesn’t waste money.

I’d probably go with something like that. Def I’d not recommend changing from pocket door to hinge one. Hinge doors are mostly always troublesome in small spaces. I’d go with walk-in hobless shower with small glass panels attached to the wall and corner pivot door. That way you can close off shower to allow better access to the bathtub (if you’re a shower screen person). If you do not mind things getting a bit splashed, I’d go without the door even. Just create a shower “zone” by differentiating with varied tiles/decor. Definitely a tough nut to crack given you’d like the bathtub. Doable, indeed. Try choosing a flush (not freestanding) tub, otherwise it’s going to be a pain to clean. Try finding one with rounded outward corners within your budget it’s going to be better flow.

One metre is the same length as the lower wall in your plan….would the window be half the width of the room?

Looked back at some old photos, likely a bit smaller, maybe 32 inch?

Can the entrance door be repositioned along the bottom wall. Therefore creating a rectangle room?

We had thought about that option however if would involve moving a door frame /entrance to a bedroom and are on quite a tight budget. The left side will be extended out. It is currently just a linen cupboard on the other side.

This plan may work. Walk-in shower and separate bath area. Back to right hand top corner bath. Then shower head on the left wall. Toilet in newly formed alcove. Single vanity between shower and toilet.

my suggestions uses the alcove for a shower and hopefully allows for more standing (and sitting) space for more than one person to use the room at the same time...the shower door needs to be a triple panel glass sliding door to allow enough opening space without impacting the vanity as i think it's very challenging to create enough slope in an existing room for a walk in shower without enclosure) the toilet space is allowing 800 x 800 for knee, and elbow room but choosing the smallest possible toilet will help allow a little extra space to include a hand towel rail at the side of the vanity...a wall hung vanity helps make the room feel more spacious and leaves space under the vanity for waste basket and slippers or scales and consider a generous mirror doored wall cabinet and/or wall mirrors to help reflect more light and include storage space for toiletries and the vanity just for towels and toilet paper
