Period Home Makeover
Purchased a number of years ago when the client was a bachelor, this period home was carefully renovated into a comfortable home. Its ideal location however meant that rather than renovate modestly and move on, this home was a keeper, and so in time, would need to grow to accommodate the family that would one day live here.
The brief to us was to provide additional living space, a new kitchen, open plan living, opening up into the rear garden, and new living and sleeping areas upstairs.
The design solution involved the age old question “to match existing, or to add contemporary”, but the exact solution was a little tricker than that. On the interior, there is a clear delineation between old and new, but the exterior takes a more sympathetic approach to the period of the home. We hope that we have achieved a contemporary solution for the spatial requirements of the clients, whilst still remaining respectful to not only the architecture of the home, but that of the homes around it.
