Room Of The Week
Room of the Week: A Plush Dining Area in Bondi Beach
Plush upholstery on a built-in booth, teamed with a pendant light made of delicate drops, creates a dreamy dining area
In a Q&A format, we talk to the designers – and examine the creative thinking – behind some of Houzz’s most loveable rooms.
Brief
Luxury, exclusivity, a reflection of their taste, a love of timber and fine fabrics, but also wanting it to be a little bit fun and memorable.

Starting point
In keeping with the general flow of the apartment, the dining area needed to be luxe, exclusive, a little bit over the top and able to seat 14. We wanted to take advantage of the curves in the room and have some fun with fabrics as well as make a statement.

Thinking behind the arrangement of furniture
It is directly related to the curves in the room, and is focused around the repetition of the curve into the furniture. The view opposite the dining table is of Bondi Beach, so it was a natural arrangement to have it facing out that way.

Challenges you worked around
Time frame; the custom banquette bench seat base was made by the cabinetmaker, then the upholsterer had to come in and make templates etc to make the upholstery work to suit. Lots of curves created lots of difficulties.

Why do you think this room works?
The curves all link into the curves of the architecture in the room. It’s welcoming and inviting, the palette is a reflection of what’s happening outside with the beach view.
