Our second house was flat-roof modern so when I designed our third home it was for my wife and two daughters so it became a pink and grey feminine dolls house. The interior was different shades of pink and blue, partly dictated by the expensive vivid-velvet blue lounge suite we owned from our 'modern' house. Sounds terrible was actually very tasteful and had an excellent feeling. Would not recommend others trying it.

I agree with Variegatedjoy with regard to choosing a neutral base for walls and large furniture pieces, then change the accessories to create the colour scheme of choice. Neutral is not boring when adding texture and pattern to the mix. I love vibrant colours too but only in small doses and not for a long period of time. I think photo #2 combo is very dull and not at all sophisticated, it belongs in the retirement home.

Love olive green with orange. Not quite complimentary but such a great way to brighten a room :) blue and orange can also be gorgeous, though generally I use a lighter shade of orange
