Brief
The client wanted to update their older-style bathroom to make it more open, user-friendly and to create more storage for her three teenagers. The goal was also to create space for an additional toilet by utilising the under-stair storage area.
The bathroom was very outdated, with gold tapware and bright green walls with burgundy features, so the result provided a much lighter, brighter space.

Starting point
I was conscious that although the bathroom needed to be more modern, it was important to keep some features in line with the rest of this Federation home, such as existing windows and door frames.

Thinking behind the arrangement of furniture/fixtures
The goal was to create more storage. This was achieved with the use of a vanity with storage and hidden power points, a mirrored shaving cabinet, and a tallboy (as well as a small vanity in the powder room that also provided storage).
One of the large windows was also covered internally to gain enough space to use a bigger vanity and to include wall space for the mirrored cabinet.

Challenges you worked around
The main challenges throughout the project were Covid-19-related, in terms of longer lead times and delays on items being shipped from interstate.

Why do you think this room works?
I think this space works well as the high ceilings provide a feeling of luxury and openness. With the lighter paint colour and new finishes and fixtures, it gives a contemporary feel to this Federation home.
The layout was also carefully considered so the rooms were was maximised without any dead space.
