Totally agree. Where possible try to use all wall mounted taps and spouts.

Mjfinney, yes, flexible hoses do rupture, but generally it's the older ones that rupture and often it's after they've been out of warranty. They should be checked for any rust spots or unravelling. Also, on all the water connections with flexible hoses, flood stop valves should be installed to prevent a flood. Con-serv do a whisper flood stop valve that stops the flow of water so if the hoses ever burst, the flood stop valve will shut off the water.

Great article ... It's sometimes hard to sort through sales pitch and genuine advice.

We are looking at two shower options for our ensuite Reno, both are twin showers. One has 7.5L/ min (Phoenix) and the other is 9L/min (Nikles). They both appear to have a 15 year warranty on parts. But differ in price by $250. One has a single function rose and the other has multi function. What should we consider when weighing these showers up?

Also, is there any reason why a basin spout should be placed over the plug hole? We are looking at a situation where the wall mixer is on a plate (200mm long) and the size of the basin is only (370mm) so the wall plate is really off centre. We are struggling to adjust to this but prefer wall mounted fixtures over the basin. Any thoughts?
