We met with our (glowing) clients quite early in their pregnancy. They were thrilled to share that they were pregnant with not one…but TWO babies!
So, a home office, located directly across from the Master Bedroom, needed to be converted into a nursery. The location within the home as well as the large windows were perfect – but the challenge was maximizing the use of the small space to accommodate two cribs, a dresser/change table, bookshelf, glider and ottoman. A thoughful Furniture Layout Plan was crucial as we needed to make sure the space wouldn’t feel cluttered and was easy to navigate (especially at 4:00am).
Working under the design premise of a soft and classic, gender-neutral aesthetic (the sex of the babies was yet to be determined), we went to work. Dust-trapping wall-to-wall carpeting was ripped out and replaced with solid Maple hardwood. Charcoal-colored walls were repainted in airy creams and soft blues, separated with a new trim-moulding dry-brushed for an antique look. A classic yet whimsical tree-patterned wallpaper was applied to the window wall – paying homage to the mountain-side forests surrounding the home. Two hand-carved birch mobiles of branches and swallows appear to extend out of the trees to adorn the cribs. The solid wood, antique buttercream furniture is a collection from Restoration Hardware.

Benvenuti and Stein
Chicago home remodel with childrens playroom. The original lower level had all the amenities an adult family would want but lacked a space for young children. A large playroom was created below the sun room and outdoor terrace. The lower level provides ample play space for both the kids and adults.
All cabinetry was crafted in-house at our cabinet shop.

Elias Kababie
In projects made by Kababie Arquitectos it is very important to reflect the client´s identity. The architecture and interior design of the space should transform into a mirror of his personality, and for this apartment in Polanco, architect, Elías Kababie – director of the firm – focused on reflecting the personality of the user developing a space designed thinking in the activities and lifestyle of a single man.
The living and dining room areas have a privileged double height becoming the center of the project. The large window changes the intensity of the light throughout the day changing the space according to time of day. In the night the enhancing feature are the lamps placed strategically throughout the space.
Elias chose a nearly monochromatic color palette in which color accents are given by the nature of the materials creating a very harmonious set. There are some details that stand out as the great picture on the stairs, the handmade rug and a bookshelf in the bedroom that was custom made according to the project needs. One of the walls was left unfinished to give a high contrast with an industrial touch.
