At first glance this rustic kitchen looks so authentic, one would think it was constructed 100 years ago. Situated in the Rocky Mountains, this second home is the gathering place for family ski vacations and is the definition of luxury among the beautiful yet rough terrain. A hand-forged hood boldly stands in the middle of the room, commanding attention even through the sturdy log beams both above and to the sides of the work/gathering space. Our clients came to us with their vision and an ask to create a timeless family space grounded in their English roots. What resulted was just that: an open and bright English-inspired kitchen featuring custom inset-cabinetry in three painted finishes, aged brass hardware, a large range alcove with built-in shelving, oversized island with plenty of prep space with oversized brass bell pendants and a 12' floor to ceiling pantry. While carefully designed and expertly crafted, the kitchen is "no -fuss" in personality and quite livable for the family which were two must-haves characteristics for the homeowners. To achieve the look and flow, the former posts in the kitchen were removed and two 24' steel beams were installed to support the second floor. All beams, new and old, were sanded down and refinished with a custom stain. We created an opening into the dining room, letting light stream through throughout the day and creating sight lines from room-to-room for this busy family. Modifications were made to the framing of adjacent rooms to allow for the floor-to-ceiling pantry to be installed. New paint, refinished floors, new appliances, and windows were also a part of the overall scope.

This kitchen renovation involved a complete overhaul of the look and feel of the existing kitchen, and transforming it into a family-friendly kitchen that conformed to the client's aesthetic: modern, rustic and eclectic. The adjacent mudroom, laundry room and powder room were surveyed to see how much flexibility there was to enhance the kitchen layout while improving upon all of the spaces. The homeowners felt strongly about light painted cabinets and let us guide the rest of the design. The kitchen features separate and spacious work zones for the cook, bar area, clean-up crew, and diners. Materials with a rustic and industrial feel were selected. The white cabinets have a grey striated glaze which blends well with the heavily textured grey island cabinets and exposed reclaimed wood beams. The Neolith countertop has a unique metallic quality that compliments the hardware and zinc accents on the floating shelves and custom kitchen table. This inviting gourmet kitchen designed by Curtis Lumber Co., Inc. is perfect for the entertaining lifestyle of the homeowners who wanted a modern farmhouse kitchen in a new construction build. The look was achieved by mixing in a warmer white finish on the upper cabinets with warmer wood tones for the base cabinets and island. The cabinetry is Merillat Masterpiece, Ganon Full overlay Evercore in Warm White Suede sheen on the upper cabinets and Ganon Full overlay Cherry Barley Suede sheen on the base cabinets and floating shelves. The leg of the island has a beautiful taper to it providing a beautiful architectural detail. Shiplap on the window wall and on the back of the island adds a little extra texture to the space. A microwave drawer in a base cabinet, placed near the refrigerator, creates a separate cooking zone.
