Et Lorem x Willow Home Design – A Refined German Kitchen for a Contemporary Barn Conversion Set within the Oxfordshire countryside, this thoughtfully converted barn is now a modern family home designed for relaxed, elevated living. Et Lorem was commissioned to design and deliver a luxury German kitchen that would sit effortlessly within the open-plan architecture, offering a clean yet characterful focal point in the heart of the home. We were asked to design a kitchen that wouldn’t compete with its surroundings, but instead enhance them. With the palette and natural flow curated by Jade Glynn, founder of Willow Home Design. With vaulted ceilings and expansive glazing, the kitchen sits within a striking open-plan setting, wrapped with natural light and stunning views. Our design needed to fit architecturally within the barn setting, while delivering the warmth and softness that would make the home feel lived-in and personal. We specified a Rotpunkt kitchen for its refined detailing and precision-led German engineering, paired with a palette of warm timber tones and textural surfaces that reflect the barn’s rural heritage. A generous island creates both a social hub and functional centrepiece to the space. While a hidden pantry is often seen as a practical essential, in this design we elevated it to become a beautifully considered space in its own right; one that’s just as enjoyable to spend time in as it is functional. The kitchen features a stunning Dekton-clad feature cooker hood, with open shelving to soften and add balance to the space. We used a combination of Dekton worksurfaces throughout, chosen not only for their soft texture and tonal variation but also for their durability and sustainable credentials. A Lacanche range cooker introduces timeless character and professional performance, complemented by handcrafted Hendel & Hendel handles for a touch of tactile elegance. A Quooker Cube tap provides instant boiling, chilled, and sparkling water; just one of many considered details that elevate the everyday experience. Every element, from internal layout to finishes, was designed to support how the space is used, without compromising on aesthetic clarity. We have worked with Willow Home Design on a number of inspiring projects, and this was no exception. The final kitchen is a true reflection of thoughtful planning, shared values, and quality craftsmanship.

Our Snug Kitchens showroom display combines bespoke traditional joinery, seamless modern appliances and a touch of art deco from the fluted glass walk in larder. The 'Studio Green' painted cabinetry creates a bold background that highlights the kitchens brass accents. Including Armac Martin Sparkbrook brass handles and patinated brass Quooker fusion tap. The Neolith Calacatta Luxe worktop uniquely combines deep grey tones, browns and subtle golds on a pure white base. The veneered oak cabinet internals and breakfast bar are stained in a dark wash to compliment the dark green door and drawer fronts. As part of this display we included a double depth walk-in larder, complete with suspended open shelving, u-shaped worktop slab and fluted glass paneling. We hand finished the support rods to patina the brass ensuring they matched the other antique brass accents in the kitchen. The decadent fluted glass panels draw you into the space, obscuring the view into the larder, creating intrigue to see what is hidden behind the door.

We had such fun designing a space that’s not just aesthetically playful and vibrant, but also functional and comfortable for a young family. Step into a sanctuary that dissolves the boundaries between indoors and out. With its vaulted ceilings, panoramic windows and beautifully crafted Tom Howley kitchen, this breathtaking extension has unequivocally become the soul of this historic Perthshire home. Clever storage solutions like the slim pantry and bi-fold drinks bar offer stylish storage and easy access to everyday items as well as your favourite beverages. The large kitchen island allows guests to relax and socialise while the host serves up delicious food. The vaulted ceiling provides a dramatic effect, while the large glass doors at either end of the space flood the room with natural light, making this kitchen the perfect place to relax at any time of day.

A warm and inviting space to wake up to, cook your favourite meals and share special times with family and friends. The heart of the home, most definitely in Raven House, a large room overlooking the plush garden. A mix of old and new, incorporating pieces from the families travels, with hints of Mexico, India and Africa, this kitchen is brimming with spice.

The generous proportions of this kitchen are enhanced by a vaulted ceiling finished in painted tongue and groove boarding, with a circular feature window bringing additional natural light into the space. A symmetrical layout centres the sink beneath the main window, framed by tall cabinetry and balanced shelving, while the stained oak island anchors the room and provides both seating and storage. The cabinetry is painted in Paint & Paper Library Stone III (203) with classic shaker doors featuring 60mm rails and stiles and cockbeaded drawer fronts. The island is finished in oak with a Jacobean stain and topped with honed black granite, contrasting with the polished Classic Quartz HS323 Valetta worktops used around the perimeter.

Luxuriously dark cabinetry, light worktops and walls with a spacious feel - this is a cool take on a classical kitchen design. Custom made for a couple with a keen eye for design, who work hard, know how to relax and absolutely adore their pups. Their kitchen renovation was part of a whole house restoration. With busy careers and two pups the brief highlighted two main aims. Firstly, to create space to enjoy the kitchen, for cooking and relaxing. Secondly, to provide customised storage so that everything has a place to help keep the space tidy. The main kitchen area is where the culinary magic happens with space to unwind. The home bar for gin and wine lovers, includes wine racks, antique mirror, glazed shelves for the gin collection and two fridge drawers for wine and mixers. Designed with pocket doors it can be left open to admire the beautiful bottles, or closed – maybe for Dry January?! It’s positioned cleverly next to their outdoor ‘lounge’ area complete with comfortable chairs and an outside rug. The larder cupboard has spice / oil racks, baskets and boxes at the bottom for treats. There are electrical points inside so the coffee machine is plugged in here and ready to serve that morning espresso. Being able to keep the kitchen tidy was important so we created a ‘home for everything’ using drawers within drawers, an Oak baking tray divider, pan drawers with lid holders and integrated chopping board and tray spaces. The ovens, warming drawer, induction hob and downdraft extractor are positioned together with the plenty of prep worktop space. The cooking section is aligned with the washing area including Fisher and Paykel dishwasher drawers, beautifully glossy white ceramic sink and boiling water tap. With a slim Oak shelf above for displaying favourite things. The Island serves as a breakfast bar as well as a sweet spot for a casual supper. There is a Zebrano wood knife block inset into the Island worktop so that their Global knife collection is on hand for food prep by the hob and oven. The table and chairs are painted in the same colour as the cabinets and upholstered in black and white, with bench seating by the window including drawers for dog toys conveniently by the doors to the garden. The second part of the design is the walk-in butler’s style pantry. This area was designed to keep the kitchen ‘clutter’ out of the main area. And it is a brilliant area to stack all the dirty dishes when entertaining as it’s completely out of sight. The cabinetry is an a classic ‘u’ shape and houses the fridge, freezer, cupboards for large appliances, oversized dishes and one for the mop and bucket. The tall cupboards with bi-fold doors are for food storage, and you can see from the photos that everything is beautifully kept – rice, pasta, popcorn, quinoa all in lovely named jars. It’s an organisers dream come true. There is also a sink for washing vegetables and oodles of prep surface. Colour pallet The cabinetry is hand painted in Farrow and Ball ‘Off-Black’. Dark and inky, it just lures you right in, timeless and deeply refined. With the cabinetry being grand in proportion too, with detailed cornicing it creates a really bold statement in this space. It can be daunting to go for a dark shade of black, blue or green, but you can see the drama of the cabinets is perfectly matched with plenty of natural light, the white walls and warm Oak floor tiles. The white patterned Domus ‘Biscuit’ tiles bring texture and playfulness. The worktop, Caesarstone Ocean Foam, is a white quartz with speckles of grey crystals. In a classic polished finish it lets the rest of the room do the ‘singing’ while providing a clean light reflecting practical surface for preparing and enjoying food and drinks. The floor tiles bring the warmth. No two tiles have the same pattern so they really do look like wood, but are better suited to the pups as they don’t scratch and are non-slip. Lighting Design The slim black framed windows with doors onto the garden flood the kitchen with natural light and warmth during the day. But atmospheric lighting into the evening was important too, so we incorporated custom lighting in the glass cabinet, gin cabinet and pantry. “It is so well integrated and was a really important thing for me, along with all the smart lighting in the room, and Mike did a great job with it all.” It was such a pleasure to make this kitchen. They wanted to work with a local company and we feel so lucky they picked us.

This is an example of a mid-sized transitional l-shaped eat-in kitchen in London with a farmhouse sink, quartzite benchtops, panelled appliances, porcelain floors, with island, grey floor, grey benchtop, beaded inset cabinets, beige cabinets, grey splashback and stone slab splashback.

Shaker kitchen cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball Hague blue with antique brass knobs, pulls and catches. The worktop is Arabescato Corcia Marble. A wall of tall cabinets feature a double larder, double integrated oven and integrated fridge/freezer. A shaker double ceramic sink with polished nickel mixer tap and a Quooker boiling water tap sit in the perimeter run of cabinets with a Bert & May Majadas tile splash back topped off with a floating oak shelf. An induction hob sits on the island with three hanging pendant lights. Two moulded dark blue bar stools provide seating at the overhang worktop breakfast bar. The flooring is dark oak parquet. Cuisine toute en longueur avec son plan de travail en forme de L. Les couleurs claires viennent agrandir l’espace, tandis que le bois du mobilier et du parquet vient réchauffer l’ensemble. Le plan de travail sur mesure, sa crédence et son étagère en marbre bianco carrara, s’harmonisent avec ces façades à cadres couleur blanc crème de chez Bocklip, qui s’accordent parfaitement avec la cuisinière Lacanche. Seul le laiton, que l’on retrouve sur la cuisinière, sur les poignées Devol Kitchen et dans la robinetterie de chez Studio Ore, viennent apporter cette touche de couleur. Les équipements ont tous été encastrés dans le but de rendre cette cuisine linéaire et épurée. Les suspensions Rose Uniacke situées juste au dessus de la table créent un effet de hauteur, et contribuent à agrandir visuellement la pièce. Nous retrouvons également deux appliques très discrètes Rose Uniacke, qui viennent autour de cette hotte inox. Les étagères sur mesure, ont été volontairement choisies ouvertes afin d’apporter du caractère à cette cuisine avec la possibilité d’une exposition cassant l’aspect linéaire. Les radiateurs, placés sous les fenêtres, ont été astucieusement dissimulés avec ces grilles sur mesure en laiton.
