The clients for this project had just recently purchased this home primarily for its property and location. The original home itself was a somewhat non-descript builder’s colonial with a columned front porch and no other significant architectural detail. The owner had always admired authentic Victorian era homes and felt this home might be their best chance at ever owning one. The goal became to develop a project that reflected a Victorian theme strongly but did not require an exact duplication. Instead it was to stand out on its own. The roof pitches and overall mass of the existing home just did not fit the new objectives so we ended up building around and over most of the original structure in order to accomplish our goal. We believe the result is a home with outstanding craftsmanship and a style that does not simply copy Victorian detail, but instead says I am a great-grandchild of the true Victorian with a strong family resemblance, but I am still doing my own thing. The clients are thrilled with the solution and the entire team of design professionals and contractors feel this is a noteworthy project. -Beth Singer Photography
