Sited on a quiet street in Palo Alto, this new home is a warmer take on the popular modern farmhouse style. Rather than high contrast and white clapboard, earthy stucco and warm stained cedar set the scene of a forever home for an active and growing young family. The heart of the home is the large kitchen and living spaces opening the entire rear of the house to a lush, private backyard. Downstairs is a full basement, designed to be kid-centric with endless spaces for entertaining. A private master suite on the second level allows for quiet retreat from the chaos and bustle of everyday.

This home was a sweet 30's bungalow in the West Hollywood area. We flipped the kitchen and the dining room to allow access to the ample backyard.
The design of the space was inspired by Manhattan's pre war apartments, refined and elegant.

Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the low-slung Gainsburg House in 1946 in the spirit of his father’s Usonian House prototypes of the 1930s. The new owners sought to reverse years of insensitive alterations while including a new kitchen, dining and family rooms, updated bathrooms, lighting and finishes, with accommodation for contemporary art display. The house was conceived as one area within an overall site geometry and the exterior can be seen from all interior angles and spaces. Our new palette compliments the original finishes and reinforces the existing geometry, enhancing a rhythm that moves throughout the house and engages the landscape in a continuous spatial composition. The mission-style cabinets in this kitchen fit perfectly into the feel of this Boston cottage. The removal of a wall separating the dining room from the kitchen and the moving of windows have made this small, unworkable kitchen into the hub of family activity.

A new residence located on a sloping site, the home is designed to take full advantage of its mountain surroundings. The arrangement of building volumes allows the grade and water to flow around the project. The primary living spaces are located on the upper level, providing access to the light, air and views of the landscape. The design embraces the materials, methods and forms of traditional northeastern rural building, but with a definitive clean, modern twist.

The finishing touches for this Kitchen include custom made stools with hand-painted fabric; a tin ceiling, glazed brick back splash, and Bevelo pendants. The large wood armoire is actually the paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer towers.
