This custom built Mission style home, set high on a cliff overlooking the Long Island Sound, features beautifully designed interior spaces, to reflect it's architecture. These wonderful homeowners' turned to Lakeville Kitchen Designer, Kathleen Fredrich, to help them bring their dream kitchen to life. Evidence of classic Mission style are incorporated in the island , on the hood and in the columns of the room divide. We selected Buckingham, by Cambria, a Quartz material, for the counter tops, to create a warm blend of the painted and the cherry wood cabinetry. Twisted oil rubbed bronze hardware, by Top Knobs, and lighting fixtures by Hubbardton Forge, add a subtle accent to the gourmet stainless steel 48" Wolf Range.

The historic restoration of this First Period Ipswich, Massachusetts home (c. 1686) was an eighteen-month project that combined exterior and interior architectural work to preserve and revitalize this beautiful home. Structurally, work included restoring the summer beam, straightening the timber frame, and adding a lean-to section. The living space was expanded with the addition of a spacious gourmet kitchen featuring countertops made of reclaimed barn wood. As is always the case with our historic renovations, we took special care to maintain the beauty and integrity of the historic elements while bringing in the comfort and convenience of modern amenities. We were even able to uncover and restore much of the original fabric of the house (the chimney, fireplaces, paneling, trim, doors, hinges, etc.), which had been hidden for years under a renovation dating back to 1746. Winner, 2012 Mary P. Conley Award for historic home restoration and preservation You can read more about this restoration in the Boston Globe article by Regina Cole, “A First Period home gets a second life.” http://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2013/10/26/couple-rebuild-their-century-home-ipswich/r2yXE5yiKWYcamoFGmKVyL/story.html Photo Credit: Eric Roth

This homeowner is a local shop keeper and interior designer in Geneva, who exudes style and a has a great eye for interiors. There was no doubt that we had to create a space that showcased her favorite decorative accents and heirlooms. A myriad of display cabinets were artfully fitted into the design which delightfully boasts her family’s keepsakes. The refrigerator, strategically hidden within the wall, is a millwork backdrop – Not standing in the way, like refrigerators are famous for. The kitchen a visual work of art amid the ordinary tasks of cooking and tidying. Project specs: Appliances by Gaggenau, Walnut island with natural quartzite countertops. From the reclaimed brick flooring to the butcher block countertop on the island, this remodeled kitchen has everything a farmhouse desires. The range wall was the main focal point in this updated kitchen design. Hand-painted Tabarka terra-cotta tile creates a patterned wall that contrasts the white walls and beige cabinetry. Copper wall sconces and a custom painted vent hood complete the look, connecting to the black granite countertop on the perimeter cabinets and the oil rubbed bronze hardware. To finish out the farmhouse look, a shiplapped ceiling was installed.

The original dated kitchen, built in the 1970s, was demolished to make way for this updated colonial revival style kitchen. The nine foot ceilings allowed for a coffered ceiling to add textural interest. Delft tiles were used for the backsplashes. The niche in the center is the appliance pantry, containing a Subzero freezer and Subzero refrigerator, both with panelized door fronts.
