This bright open-planed kitchen uses a smart mix of materials to achieve a contemporary classic look. Neolith Estatuario porcelain tiles has been used for the worktop and kitchen island, providing durability and a cost effective alternative to real marble. A built in sink and a single adjustable barazza tap maintains a minimal look. Matt Lacquered cabinetry provides a subtle contrast whilst wooden effect laminate carcass and shelving breaks up the look. Pocket doors allows flexibility with how the kitchen can be used and a glass splash back was used for a seamless look.

The end wall is a fantastic improvement. We built a space to fully enclose a full-sized french door refrigerator. That's a broom closet on the left side. Adjustable shelving above provides good space for larger items.

The large multi-function kitchen is the centre of daily life in the home. We've used two banks of full-height cabinetry to conceal a host of complex infrastructure and storage areas, so that what's visible is distilled down to three simple elements - two perimeter cabinets and an island.

While this is a beach house kitchen, it would sit just as comfortably in an exclusive home on the European Alps. There is a lot of timber in this kitchen, yet there is no feeling of timber overload a la 1970's scandi-mania! So, what keeps this timber chic? High impact black engineered stone bench tops take the eye from the wood giving a feeling of warmth and a laid back air. Hard wearing terracotta ground the timber without going overboard on the brown tones. There is a definite luxurious cinnamon flavour happening here and it is pulled off expertly by the designer.

The informal dining area integrated at this end of the island provides a safe space for the children to sit whilst Carla and Ben are cooking. Bearing in mind the need for this room to work for a family, a designated safe area for the children was necessary. The pendant lights above the table echo the Merlot glass splashback, bringing different elements of the room together.
