Studio Uno is an unexpected sanctuary for our client Naomi, a full-time carer and mother. Lying behind an established Brunswick terrace, it takes the shape of a meticulously designed Dependent Persons Unit.
Naomi lives with her adult daughter, who has very high support needs. The nature of their circumstances means that living together under one roof isn’t always feasible. Naomi needed a certified DPU that met a simple brief: a dismantlable but quality retreat with warm, robust materials and a calming ambience.
We’ve packed as much enduring quality and thoughtful design as possible into a compact footprint. Carefully engineered, the dwelling’s lightweight structure and internal linings enable it to be readily disassembled, transported and rebuilt elsewhere. It replaces the fence at the site’s rear, with its upper mass leaning into one corner to minimise impact on the neighbours’ skyscape. Inside, blackbutt timber and hoop pine plywood dominate the palette to create a warm, low-contrast and relaxing environment.
The ground floor features dual sliding doors connecting to the courtyard and laneway, with a versatile living area between for retreat, Naomi’s art practice and above all, peacefulness. Lining the wall is a simple kitchenette, cabinetry, and a clever door concealing the bathroom. A staircase leads to the loft bedroom above, made deliberately cosy and secluded by the dwelling’s tapered form. It’s punctured only by a small window to the lane and a skylight above, offering light and ventilation without compromising privacy.

A visually striking yet highly practical Schüller kitchen, this modern design embraces a refined minimalist aesthetic with clean architectural lines and carefully balanced materials.
Finished in Siena Velvet Lacquer matt, the dark navy lay-on slab cabinetry is opened with grip ledges and push-open doors and fitted with integrated appliances for a sleek & monolithic appearance.
The dark navy cabinetry is darkened further by the black sink, matching U-shaped tap, integrated oven and pendant lighting, while the palette is warmed by the integrated shelf lighting and wood textures, balancing the colour scheme for an overall clear, composed and compact appearance.
A run of base and wall units were designed to add additional storage to this living room while also adding bench seating for the dining room table, without interrupting the minimalist aesthetic or subtracting from the wild Atlantic coastline.

This image captures the epitome of luxury and sophistication in the living room of a high-end residence. The design choices exude elegance and opulence, with a focus on creating a serene and inviting space. Key elements include the plush seating arrangements, exquisite detailing such as the intricate molding and elegant light fixtures, and the use of high-quality materials like marble and velvet. The color palette is carefully curated to evoke a sense of warmth and luxury, with rich tones and metallic accents adding depth and sophistication. With its impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail, this living room exemplifies timeless elegance and offers a sanctuary of comfort and style.

The three-storey house, known as House Benett, is situated on the edge of London and is surrounded by greenery in a quiet residential street. The front facing rooms and the oak wooden entrance reflect the buildings eco credentials.
We began working on plans for the house in 2012. A key aspect of the brief was to ensure a strong connection with the area's existing architectural style. After the planning consent was granted, the house was built at Baufritz´s state of the art factory in Germany, using low-carbon construction processes, sustainable timber and other biodegradable building materials, before being shipped to the UK for assembly in 2014.
House Benett boasts 4230 sq ft/ 393 sqm of modern living space spread over three floors. The wooden timber construct makes the need for structural steel redundant. Grey window frames, dark clay roof tiles and a porch roof create a contemporary look that blends in with the natural surroundings.
The house front with its white rendered facade shows only two storeys at street level. At the back a further lower level, the ground floor, hosts the family home cinema and accesses the patio and the garden. The main living area is defined by an open-plan living space with access to the garden via a stairway.
The balcony overlooking the garden frames a view of the treetops and sky. The double height entry hall with skylight creates a natural flow of light and makes the high craftsmanship and use of sustainable materials stand out. There are four bedrooms on the top floor with ensuite bathrooms and balconies. Floor to ceiling windows and plenty of built in storage give the rooms a spacious and uncluttered feel.
