Fringe Dweller’s sculpted extension transforms an unassuming weatherboard cottage into a proud forever home. It walks multiple tightropes at once: balancing openness with privacy, strength with softness, and a rich history with our clients’ future needs. On Clifton Hill’s suburban edge, the house sits opposite the leafy Quarries Park Reserve. Our clients, Ishtar and Craig, have three children and purchased their cottage to create a long-term family home. Lying within a heritage overlay, the cottage’s traditional layout is largely preserved – only tweaked, in a wise parenting move, to form three equally sized bedrooms. The extension’s shared spaces feature rich materials, a warm palette and curved edges, creating a feeling of softness and easing transitions between zones. A staircase arcing through the living areas leads up to the lounge and main suite. Elevated above street level, these spaces can more freely relate to the park: the lounge’s attached balcony overlooks the park’s open field, while the main bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling window frames magnificent foliage. Downstairs, sliding doors connect the living areas to a semi-covered deck, while the garden beyond is embraced by a self-contained studio at the rear and high walls on either side. A brick wall interspersed with permeable screens lines the site’s public edge, balancing backyard privacy with neighbourhood connection. For passers-by, it’s a strong addition to the streetscape, granting glimpses of the lush garden within. Fringe Dweller embraces its presence on the fringe of the parklands, balancing its historical context with its future as a nurturing family home.

This property has all the luxury any family could wish for with a Home Cinema, Sauna, Gym and a self contained Guest Suite which includes its own fully equipped Kitchen. Our client had impeccable taste, and with our joint collaboration we were able to deliver a truely remarkable family home.

The space showcases a seamless blend of modern and functional design. It emphasizes an open-plan layout, natural light, and integration between indoor and outdoor areas. Key features include sleek kitchen cabinetry, a central island, cozy leather sofas, vibrant accents, and bi-fold glass doors leading to an inviting outdoor deck. In the sought-after affluent village of Radlett, we were commissioned by our client to create a show-stopping masterpiece for their kitchen with an adjacent walk-in pantry. It wasn’t just a kitchen; it was a place where our client would feel right at home with their interior design, daily living and evening entertaining. The brief was clear: warm and luxurious with seating for all occasions and organised storage, a room that could move easily from quiet morning coffee to a long supper with friends. The house gave us a beautiful starting point. Working with the client’s mood board, the vision of walnut for the kitchen quickly felt inevitable, a way of grounding the cabinetry in the same tonal world as the architecture above it. Lighter accents were then layered in, lifting the palette and bringing it firmly into step with the direction interiors are moving in right now: rich characterful timbers softened by quieter, paler counterpoints. It’s a large space, and the cabinetry had to hold its own without overwhelming it. Our Lay-On Slim Shaker was the natural choice: a tailored frame that gives the room structure and rhythm. The slim profile keeps things contemporary, a quietly modernist take on a familiar silhouette. On top of that, we added reeded details to parts of the design, a textured piece that catches the light and gently slows the eye as it moves across the space. The tinted walnut veneer brings out the depth and grain of timber, giving the room exactly the warmth and luxury it asks for and the lighter tone of Rolling Fog Dark gives it space to breathe. A soft colour with just enough depth to feel considered next to the richness of the walnut. This contrast is what makes the room work, and we absolutely love it! At the centre of the room is a large rectangular island holding the whole composition together. It gives the space a clear focal point while giving a generous working surface that a kitchen of this scale deserves. One side leans into character, open-shelving set on solid legs, and on the other, a beautiful banquette wrapping around an L-shape. Set into the heart of the main run, the sink and tap claim their own moment in the design, framed by symmetrical cabinetry on either side. It’s a considered choreography, where the working part of the kitchen takes its place. Above it, bridging the gap between the upper and lower cabinetry, a walnut floating shelf adds a horizontal note of warmth, completed by an Armac Martin Cotswold gallery rail in aged brass. It’s these small pieces of jewellery that nod to traditional detailing. Behind, the splashback steps in as a beautiful backdrop, rising from the worktop in Dekton Arga. The smooth cream surface carries subtle brown-gold veins that intensify its dramatic structure, giving a beautiful, dazzling sheen. This kitchen didn’t just settle for one sink either. A secondary sink sits within the island, dedicated to prep and easy handwashing, so the rhythm of cooking, serving and entertaining never has to cross. An appliance lineup makes no secret of a real love for Miele. A huge bank of Miele appliances in Pearl Beige takes its place within the floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. It’s a quietly confident way to handle a serious amount of kit: rather than scattering appliances around the room, everything lands in one place, beautifully composed. A Smeg induction hob sits flush at the island, while a Siemens glass draft extractor rides behind it. Completing the suite of appliances is the integrated Fisher & Paykel French door fridge freezer. Grounding the whole space are the additional details that reward a closer look. Pocket door dressers with ordered storage, integrated lighting that brings the interiors to life, and the bespoke walnut cutlery drawers carrying the same level of care. The Walk-In Pantry Just off the main kitchen, hidden behind a pocket door, the walk-in pantry reveals itself as a beautiful, organised room. The smart, deep green Lay-On Slim Shaker cabinetry immediately changes the mood. Filled with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, it gives the pantry a sense of generous, dedicated storage. It’s completed with Armac Martin handles in burnished brass, and the worktops are Carrara quartz. Open shelving set on bespoke corbels sits in front of the T&G wall panelling while integrated lighting picks out everything on display. A fridge sits within the cabinetry, joined by a sink and tap, so the pantry doesn’t just store the contents of a busy household; it actively supports them. Every part of this Radlett project has been shaped from the main room delivering the show-stopping masterpiece, while the pantry behind its pocket door offers a quieter, more intimate counterpoint. Both form a home that’s ready for a quiet morning and a long evening of entertaining. The design features a rich, smoky green palette accented with brass and metallic details. A striking acoustic panelling feature wall adds texture, while herringbone flooring and stylish shaker-style cabinets pull the look together, making this kitchen a true visual standout.

Faire l’acquisition de surfaces sous les toits nécessite parfois une faculté de projection importante, ce qui fut le cas pour nos clients du projet Timbaud. Initialement configuré en deux « chambres de bonnes », la réunion de ces deux dernières et l’ouverture des volumes a permis de transformer l’ensemble en un appartement deux pièces très fonctionnel et lumineux. Avec presque 41m2 au sol (29m2 carrez), les rangements ont été maximisés dans tous les espaces avec notamment un grand dressing dans la chambre, la cuisine ouverte sur le salon séjour, et la salle d’eau séparée des sanitaires, le tout baigné de lumière naturelle avec une vue dégagée sur les toits de Paris. Tout en prenant en considération les problématiques liées au diagnostic énergétique initialement très faible, cette rénovation allie esthétisme, optimisation et performances actuelles dans un soucis du détail pour cet appartement destiné à la location.

As we shift our gaze within this captivating open-plan kitchen, the design narrative continues to unfold seamlessly. The veneer doors and shaker-style wall cabinet doors blend effortlessly, offering a perfect marriage of contemporary and traditional elements. From this different vantage point, our attention is drawn to the exquisite island design, where rhythmic arches extend a graceful invitation towards the adjacent living room. These enchanting arches mirror the design finesse seen in the wall cabinets, creating an unbroken visual thread that weaves through the entire space.

Originally a church and community centre, this Northside residence has been lovingly renovated by an enthusiastic young couple into a unique family home. The design brief for this kitchen design was to create a larger than life industrial style kitchen that would not look lost in the enormous 8.3meter wide “assembly hall” area of this unassuming 1950’s suburban home. The inclusion of a large island that was proportionate to the space was a must have for the family. The collation of different materials, textures and design features in this kitchen blend to create a functional, family-friendly, industrial style kitchen design that feels warm and inviting and entirely at home in its surroundings. The clients desire for dark charcoal colour cabinetry is softened with the use of the ‘Bluegrass’ colour cabinets under the rough finish solid wood island bench. The sleek black handles on the island contrast the Bluegrass cabinet colour while tying the island in with the handless charcoal colour cabinets on the back wall. With limited above bench wall space, the majority of storage is accommodated in 50-65kg capacity soft closing drawers under deep benchtops maximising the storage potential of the area. The 1meter wide appliance cabinet has ample storage for small appliances in tall deep drawers under bench height while a pair of pocket doors above bench level open to reveal bench space for a toaster and coffee machine with a microwave space and shelving above. This kitchen design earned our designer Anne Ellard, a spot in the final of KBDI’s 2017 Designer Awards. Award winners will be announced at a Gala event in Adelaide later this year. Now in its ninth year, the KBDi Designer Awards is a well-established and highly regarded national event on the Australian design calendar. The program recognises the professionalism and talent of Australian kitchen and bathroom designers.
