A shady front yard paver patio in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle under a large Sequoia tree. Corten steel planters with Creeping Jenny and Carex spilling over. The steel gas firepit brings warmth to the seating area wrapped by a cedar built-in bench.

The guiding concept was to create a sense of place that balances the theatrical with feelings of serenity, joy, and retreat from the sprawling city. Low maintenance elements such as concrete pavers, ipe, gravel, Agaves, Fortnight Lillies, Ornamental Plums, and Cape Rush are sympathetic to the demands of the client's busy schedule.

At the far end of the yard, anchoring the back corner, is a sophisticated, custom concrete L-shaped bench, fire table and patio with stunning views of the Santa Monica mountains. Beneath the sighing Eucalyptus branches, it’s an enchanting spot to absorb the magic of the Los Angeles night.

A small permeable concrete patio was installed in the small backyard of this beach house. The patio created a more usable space, replacing a small lawn, which was often wet, muddy and hard to grow grass. Now the family has a place to gather around the firepit.

These clients decided to make this home their Catalina Mountain homestead, after living abroad for many years. The prior yard enclosed only a small portion of their available property, and a wall obstructed their city lights view of northern Tucson. We expanded the yard outward to take advantage of the space and to also integrate the topography change into a 360 vanishing edge pool.
The home previously had log columns in keeping with a territorial motif. To bring it up to date, concrete cylindrical columns were put in their place, which allowed us to expand the shaded locations throughout the yard in an updated way, as seen by the new retractable canvas shade structures.
Constructed by Mike Rowland, you can see how well he pulled off the projects precise detailing of Bianchi's Design. Note the cantilevered concrete steps, the slot of fire in the midst of the spa, the stair treads that don't quite touch the adjacent walls, and the columns that float just above the pool water.

The Rose Outdoor Living Space, including deck, patio and fire pit, was designed by Brent Langley. The patio was built using Belgard Moduline pavers and Black Diamond accent pavers from Techo-bloc. The natural gas fire pit was built with Belgard's Wellington Wall blocks with Onyx Black Piedimonte Caps. Low-voltage accent lighting was used under the caps. Hot Tub included.

Beachy backyard paradise on Padaro Lane Carpinteria. We imported about 5 truckloads of sand in order to raise the sand level 16 to 18 inches to allow views of the beach - before, it felt like there was a barricade between you and the ocean. It was an unlovely and unusable space. We created a great gathering area with a custom built flagstone bench and several large flagstone slabs for the fire pit. We found the perfect contemporary furniture and placed it around the fire pit. The furniture is custom made with Ipe wood, pre-cast concrete, embed sea glass, aggregate and fossil shells. It had to be heavy enough to not blow away or wander down the beach.

This beautiful outdoor space was designed to replace a shady, largely unused space in our client's backyard. We transformed a small, exposed aggregate patio into an expansive covered outdoor room complete with a gas fireplace and an elaborate outdoor kitchen and bar seating area. The additional open patio space takes advantage of views out to a waterfall and greenery beyond.
