Situated on a 100 acre site, this landscape for a private residence draws it's inspiration from the classic mountain lodges of the northeast. Rich sweeping drifts of native perennials, grasses and shrubs create a relaxed, elegant composition that ground the home and define a variety of spaces for family gathering, entertaining and quiet reflection. Large caliper trees were planted to compliment the surrounding mature trees, providing a sense of permanence and timelessness. An existing pond was augmented and expanded for swimming with a 'diving rock' hand selected and perched at one end. The south-facing terrace is defined by large slabs of stone and a grand outdoor fireplace that gives way to views of the neighboring ski trails.

Lush plantings surround garden paths in this garden on the Southern Oregon coast. The rusting steel arbor at the top of the hill supports four fruiting pear trees. The ipe bench below the arbor is large enough to seat several people. This garden is battered by winds and browsed by hungry deer, but is nonetheless a testament to the incredible climate of the Oregon coast. See more photos of this garden at our website, mosaic-gardens.com.

Golightly Landscape Architecture
A series of outdoor garden rooms — each created based on the site's topography — pull the architecture of this beautiful Georgian home into the landscape. The spaces open and close as you walk through the site, which empties intoa concrete swimming pool draped in lawn and accented by a James Carter-designed open-air pavillion at one end.
These outdoor rooms are terraced with native stone walls, the most dramatic of which is the elliptical boxwood garden with an allee of Winter King Hawthornes connecting it to the pool garden.
GLA took meticulous care to retain as many of the mature boxwoods and trees as possible, evidenced by the 30-foot-tall Japanese Maple. It had been slated for demolition before we convinced the client that it was worth the time and effort to simply relocated the beautiful tree. It now sides 20 feet from its original location in a side garden — a splendid specimen visible from the front of the home.
