River Point is a new house that incorporates a row of picturesquely disheveled old sheds and barns into a connected whole. The aim is to play up the idea of organic growth over time, without jarring contrasts between old and new buildings. The sheds set the stage, one of them acting as a gate lodge that you go through to get to the house.
The language and materials of the house are compatible with but distinct from the sheds. The gambrel roof of the house sweeps out at the eaves in a graceful curve to broad overhangs that shelter generous windows. A stair tower with expressive, exaggerated roof brackets also signals that the new house isn’t an old farm building.

Owners of this country ranch home wanted to add a three bay carriage barn for vehicles and garden equipment. The challenge here was to provide a covered walkway between the structures that didn't cut off the view to the beautiful country garden meadow in back of the home. The solution we created was to separate the two structures, and frame the view with an open breezeway.

Description: The owners of this home travel extensively and appreciate the great outdoors. Global travels shaped their desire for a home that embraces nature. The bridge connecting the sleeping and living structures allows cool ocean breezes to pass from the marsh to the front yard; decks and stairs to pool and terrace visually connect inside and out. Most walls from the street are solid, providing privacy, yet they open to rooms of glass, timber and soaring ceilings with views of Bass and Cinder Creeks and Folly Island.
