This minimalist acrylic wine cellar is located in an exclusive East Hampton residence. The homeowner and architect wanted help creating a cellar that would make the wine bottles appear to float in the air. Architectural Plastics was contracted to design and build the wine cellar racks. By using a combination of clear acrylic wine racks and light from LED back panels, the bottles do appear to simply float in the air.

Design inspiration for this wine cellar came from a statement made by the homeowner, “I don’t like sitting in a cold room drinking wine.” by designing a room within a room, we were able to contain the temperature controlled wine space using floor to ceiling glass panels while still allowing full view for the beautiful custom built white oak cabinetry from the tasting area. The flooring is blue stone. The wine racking was custom designed into steel frames. This wine room holds approximately 500 bottles. We created this glass fronted, temperature controlled Wine Room for the storage of approx 1000 bottles. A Fondis C50S temperature control system was used here to create the conditions. With a lot of glass used in this project, we used acrylic rod displays in parts to give the impression of floating bottles.
