Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars25 June 2020
“I commissioned Ben to work on my ambitious extension project based on a very positive referral from a friend who had previously commissioned him. Ben immediately added value by identifying opportunities and enhancing the ambition and design of what I had in mind, whilst being responsible with the budget. Ben is a consummate professional, highly creative with a very thorough approach to the project that inspires confidence. Would highly recommend for any project size and complexity.”

Miriam Layton Architectural Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars14 November 2016
“Miriam has been a brilliant architect for us. We hired her to design a 3 bed, 2 storey extension. We thought we already knew what we wanted in terms of layout and look, but she came back with a number of really exciting ideas that transformed our fairly mundane ideas into really exciting, but affordable designs. We had a number of difficulties with planning, none of them Miriam's fault, causing her to have to revise key details without losing the essence of what we wanted (lots of light and space). She was really succesful and we're really pleased with the outcome. We were very naive about the whole building process before starting the project and Miriam has held our hands throughout and been a fantastic support.”

“Having been refused planning twice, I have referred to Bruno of BMac Studio who was able to gain planning permission with the assistance of a pre-application which was not advise or deem necessary by the previous architect. I went on to use Bruno on my rental property and would highly recommend his services.”

“Anthro Architecture designed and project managed our new build family home to the highest of standards. John was easy to work with and implemented our requirements effectively while keeping the design refined and contemporary. The end result was a magnificent bright home with plenty of subtle architectural detailing that would not have been achieved without John's advice. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this firm.”

“Andrew linked our 60s maisonette to the garages below. Here's why we hired him, and how it turned out: 1. Listening: We interviewed six (!) architects and he took most account of us, our tastes and how we live, rather than trying to foist a grand plan on us. It felt like a creative partnership not a takeover. 2. Focus on small details: Our project hinged on where to put the stairs. Andrew took us to another project, where he'd included an upstairs bathroom in a tiny cottage by moving the stairs. He'd thought it through in fine detail and it worked. 3. Sensitive to the architecture of the house, bringing back its mid-century vibe. 4. Budget conscious: Andrew worked with us to bring down costs. 5. Endlessly patient: Andrew was very tolerant of our questions, changes of mind and changes to the plan. Nothing was too much trouble. 6. Good with the planners: we had no trouble at all with our application for a side extension in a conservation area. 7, Lovely clean, contemporary aesthetic: the result looks great: simple mid-century modernism with a scandi edge. We are thrilled with the result and would work with Andrew again.”

“I have known John for several years and decided to provide JPD Architecture with an opportunity to design, obtain planning permission and building regulation approval accordingly. My design criteria was extremely unique with specific requests relating to usability of open plan living with particular emphasis on the unique design and quality of workable details. My development criteria has always maintained the ethos and emphasis not only within desirable locations but the new homes must at all times be designed uniquely, totally individual and uncompromising for my specific requirements. Having over 30 years in the development industry it remains critically important to engage the correct team of professional consultants to enable satisfactory execution of my specific requests. I can not speak more highly of John, He proved to be very helpful and always accommodating. A true old school gent who never complained if my personal alterations to a detail etc was required. John concluded the requested alterations and issued the revised drawings pretty much immediately. Any structural bearing he issued and liaised with my structural engineers immediately. John's son Tim has also joined the practice proving to be a real asset. I myself was delighted with Tim's ideas and proposals especially his attention to detail of the internal feature lighting designs i had requested which was by no means an easy task. Together the project was hugely successful which achieved amazing results. The attached brochure will endorse my comments and sentiments further. Good work guys,I am looking forward to commencing the immanent site initial designs hopefully within the month.”
Prince & Gisbey Architects

“We found Prince & Gisbey through a recommendation; we were looking for a young, local architectural practice to guide us through a proposed re-modelling and extension to our recently-purchased 60's bungalow. Matt Gisbey came and visited, talked through in depth our ideas and wishes, and returned a week or two later with his thoughts on paper. We immediately liked some aspects of his design, and realised the value of bringing in a professional. Not everything suggested was to our taste, but between us in the intervening weeks, we honed the plans to achieve a balance between the practical and the aesthetic that would enhance our home and our enjoyment of it, whilst preserving and adding to the character of the property. Due to the coronavirus lockdown, some meetings have been conducted online, with Matt showing us very effective 3D computer generated images that really help to make the project come alive. We are very relaxed with the result, and plans have been submitted for local authority approval. Matt has moved on to the next stage, of detailing all the services, finishes, specifications, etc and to agreeing with us the locating and appointing of suitable building regs consultant and structural engineers. It is reassuring to have his guidance in these matters. As this review is written, no building work has commenced, so I cannot comment on the final outcome yet. However, we have enjoyed the process to date, Matt has followed a logical sequence to get to this point, and has always listened to our ideas, even if he has had to gently point out the practical difficulties of achieving them! We generally have found a good compromise and moved on. Matt himself is personable and good company, and has taken a close interest in our project. We expect to work with him through to the completion, and would recommend his calm, friendly but professional approach to anyone considering using an architect for similar work.”
