Your builder seems to have used features of Spanish Mission, Mexican, and Spanish Revival/Hollywood looks. You could keep that look and build on it with compatible decorative features and colours. Go online to see whether you like such a look. The alternative, if you do not like that look or do not think it will resell in your area, would be to eliminate arches and disguise/play down beams.

Hmmm, I initially had same idea as bigreader about fridge placement where microwave shelves are, but I doubt there's ample width for a fridge there. Then there's issue with fridge door opening into same area as that door that we are wondering about. What size is your fridge? It sounds like you are considering placing the fridge on the carpeting with the back in the dining/living space. Is that correct? It's generally not a good idea to place a fridge on carpet in case of leakage and subsequent damage to the carpet. Do you own the apartment/unit? If so, this may give you more options. If you were able to remove the bench/cabinet to the right of your stove and the overhead cabinets there, that could be enough space for a fridge. But you would lose food preparation and storage space. As has been suggested, the wall opposite the stove could accomodate more overhead cupboards. It would be helpful to know what that door is for, the size of your fridge, and if you are able to do renovation to the apartment.

Congrats! All I can add is really think about your kitchen function. I recently stayed in a holiday rental. While a large kitchen island was lovely to use, the narrow walking space around the edges were a hindrance. Also, while having 'chef's kitchen / pantry' area in rear reduced the messy look, it destroyed the functionality (if you lacked an actual chef & had to cook for yourself that is). The 'working triangle' was interrupted by a doorway, which became a traffic jam of people. Sometimes carrying knives... I know large kitchen islands are great. But this one killed the kitchen. Don't do that.

Hi All I have a box of quality drill bits that seem to be new but their engraved sizes covered by rust ,,,,I tried to sand them to see their sizes but still I am finding difficulty What would be the correct way to determine the drill bit sizes?( i.e. Measure tip of a bit or flute of a bit or shank of a bit )? Attached photos showing 4 new Sutton SDS plus for masonry (4mm, 6mm, 11mm, 16mm) not been used and still have their tags showing sizes SDS bits their tips are wider than the flute unlike other types I tried to do a test by using 3 different types of drill gauges but I can't fit the drill bit size 4mm into the hole 4mm and same issues with other sizes 6mm, 11mm, 16mm Thx
