Asphalt/bitumen could get sticky in summer. Not a fan of the smell either...... An Australian Sandstone paver would look pretty classy. Not cheap but everyone else has concrete.......because it's cheaper........ Although once you add stamped, oxides, patterns, etc. to concrete the more expensive alternatives aren't so dear after all.

I think that stamped and stencilled concrete only became popular in the 80's. I am mid century myself, and we only had plain concrete if we were lucky. Further to the comment above, I have had three stamped/stenciled concrete jobs done, and both have faded terribly. Go for plain or exposed aggregate.

I think it looks pleasant enough . Is that your house in the background of pic 3 ? I don't like that greenish tinged render on the house , its a bit too 80's , and I realise this isn't what you asked , but I'd be more inclined to spend my $$$ changing that to a tone matching the 'inner' creamy beige around the pool , and adding a Wow too , maybe a brighter sail cloth or bright orange furniture or those 2 poles in bright red or similar , how about big bright alibaba pots to replace the black ones ? Changing the house tone will modernise it a bit , but also the paths won't stand out so much , so add that Wow thing , and suddenly it will look 'tidier' colour-wise , more planned . just my take .
