Hi all, as a Painter of 30 plus years i am a bit old fashioned and still love oil based enamel, i think the problem is we tend to compare the two finishes when it is impossible for them to be the same. We have used many of the leading name brands and some Bio products the Solver/Wattyl have been the best finish in my opinion but they do take a special touch to get a smooth finish. The key being to apply and finish as you go and don't over work and we have found a much better finish is achieved by three to four coats especially with whites and light colours. When going over oil enamel your preparation is the key, the Zinnser products are great for this. We did a large home with 300mm high skirting's and 3 metre high paneled doors I chose to spray finish this project with HVLP spray equipment, it came out beautiful and had a good gloss retention. It is the only time i have really been happy with these products. But as we head to more environmentally friendly products i think we just have to get on board and remember it's a totally different finish.

for some reason i thought the table top was round? but same principles apply and check out the range of steel available at the hardware stores and IKEA..keeping in mind that if the table top weighs 50kgs and you use 4 legs that each leg only has to hold up about 12.5 kg as long as it's evenly distributed and level...try making a base table with the craftwood and steel legs, paint the craftwood black, make sure the table is level, mount the stone on top of the base...the next question is how tall teh table and the legs should be but something like this leg from Bunnings could work ...leg is 220 tall + height of craftwood and table top?? would make a low coffee table but there are numerous alternative available or check workshop and car suppliers for steel tool storage shelves and boxes

A step down shower floor ( approx 15 mm is a good option, a grate across the door needs to be 100 mm wide with linear grating ( never a tile insert grate ) Walk in shower ( no door ) A graded floor into the shower with grate at the wall, NOT a good option, water droplets will attract water onto bathroom floor ( Physics attraction of water ), will end up fixing metal strip to prevent a wet bathroom floor.
