Under sink drawers are a wonderful use of space, giving you easy access to what always gets pushed to the back & forgotten or can't be found. Drawers for plates etc. I find overhead cupboards hard to access what is at the back be it glasses or cups or foodstuff, so having these too deep is not practical. Pull out vertical shelves for your jars & packets. I like the idea of under cupboard & kick-board lighting. Have you considered a dust vent that you can sweep all your crumbs etc into? They are similar to ducted vacuum units & fitted at floor level under a cupboard. Also incorporate storage for all your appliances to hide them away. If you go with a glass splash-back, make sure it is clear glass as some is green tinged can ruin your intended effect. Enjoy your new kitchen.

Judy, do you know if the stepped facade on the art-deco extension is hiding a roof gable or is it purely decorative? If it is only decorative (and heritage regulations allow) I would remove those top 2 courses to make it a simpler box shape. Not essential, but in my opinion that stepped gable is not very attractive, and makes it look more like a public building than a residence. This would simplify and give it more of a modern look, but still be genuine art-deco. The house is already a combination of different eras, so adding a bit of a modern touch will not detract and is more honest when you are renovating anyhow. I would paint the driveway terra-cotta to match the tiles, garage door green to match the roof and change the cladding on the garage front wall to flat fibre-cement panel rendered and built up to a straight line parapet on the front. Paint all walls white, including the rendered panel over the garage door (IMHO this is the only colour that really works with art-deco). Remove the shutters and paint window frames and other trim the dark charcoal you already have on gutters and other trim. The middle section of the column should be that same colour as the top and bottom for its shape and proportions to read well. I would probably leave the stone paths as they are, as they seem to match the dark surround to your front porch tiles. With the front fence I would remove the wrought iron, then extend the pillars up to 2m and fit batten screens between them. To alleviate the sun-load on the western window after those shutters are gone I would instead plant a screen of high growing vegetation inside the front fence, e.g. a row of bamboo. That would give you a better outlook and still provide sun shading and street privacy.

Hi Tiah Perhaps this is an opportunity to look at your kitchen in a different way before you go though the complications of glass removal (although damaged plaster can be fixed). Concrete look tiles with those grey cabinet doors could end up looking quite dull. The reason the lime green was installed in the first place was probably to throw some life into a dark corner. If you were absolutely wanting to lose the green, consider getting a glazier to install a smoked mirror splash back - it will tie in with the existing cabinetry and also get some light reflections into the kitchen. But before I would do that I would play with the green - consider the opportunity to bring a more botanical look into the space. Jewel-like bottle greens in the form of potted plants and bright aqua accessories will counteract the "lime factor". top it off with some black stools and some bamboo accessories and the space could feel quite uplifting. It's a cheap and cheerful option to play around with anyway. Good luck!!

Hi again, Lorraine here, I looked closer at your pictures of the area. I also noted your comment regarding "what if" you re do your kitchen. So, we all can do that and then time tics away and we dont do anything and frustration sets in as you really just want to change the things you have been looking for many years. The picture you have taken tonings from is very near your kitchen. the chairs to the table are the most pronounced of the colour you are seeking. Around the larger part of the room there are only little touches of the tone you like. Your rooms are very light with the blinds up. So I think the kitchen can take darker colours. Like the very deep grey outline of the fishes or the deep blue/grey in the painting or colour of the chairs. Laminex limed cement is a wonderful deep colour and will bring the benches alive. Then with removing the heavy door handles and seeing if you can use the push and clip fittings - you wont have any door handles but use a neater steel looking knob for your drawers or brushed steel handles on cupboards if you cant get the push and clip things inside. Paint the front board looking into the lounge and the cupboards a deep grey/blue colour to fit with the, mid deeper colour in the painting and the outline of the fish and the red will fit in nicely. Keeping your blinds up allowing the light in more than not will bring the room to life. Take out the floor runner. Do you use your stools? with the table right there are the stools necessary? if not take them away and ensure that area of the cupboards at front is painted - this gives a clearer area defining "kitchen". hope this helps Loz
