Comments (3)Leave all the doors but start with painting kitchen cupboards and then some pieces of furniture along with the door jams etc, and see how it lightens up. A Persian rug with the green reds and Browns would look lovely in the living room!...See MoreRenovation & Extension to Old Victorian Workers Cottage in Northcote

Comments (8)a new owner may prefer to demolish all the walls and create a completely different arrangement so my suggestions aim to maximise bench space and make the whole room feel more spacious and, rather than extend the kitchen past the pantry and window, a small free standing breakfast table and sideboard would give more purpose to that end of the room ...the whole space is too narrow for an island and too wide without so, one option to create extra counter, would be to consider deeper counters (over standard cabinets with a small void against the wall) a continuous counter along the window (3.7m long and 700mm deep with drop in sink and cooktop (with range hood), built in oven and dw over cabinets and drawers.... having the fridge at the other end, creates an alcove between the pantry and the fridge to have another deeper counter for an appliance centre with out of sight counter space for appliances with a microwave shelf and wall cabinets.....test the idea with a big piece of cardboard to see how much extra space there is on a 70cm deep counter to stand the kettle and toaster etc and still have space left for serving food and making sandwiches etc...simple cabinets and drawers with generous counters should make substantial improvement...See MoreHELP! Comments (5)I'm thinking on similar lines to oklouise , with a couple of differences . The front fence looks to be similar brick , but not identical , but the reason you notice that is because the house is almost all white trim , and the fence has a black cap . So I'd do that cap in white , and thats got that a bit more in tune . The iron railings , the white windows , the awnings , the squared hedge are all old-fashioned , but thats what you have . I'd change the awnings , paint the door white , get rid of the canvas carport . But rather than doing the garage in charcoal , I'd try and get a similar orangey red to the brick ( get several test pots ) . Its not going to be perfect , but neither is black or charcoal . To a certain degree , replacing the garage cladding with cedar stained natural wood in theory is even better , but I'm worried it may look too cliched . The gardens are okay , of course theres heaps you could do but theres nothing jarring there , but the final thing I'd mention is the right side fence . I'm not a fan of white fences , but with the reddish brick , the brown roof and all the white trim , I wouldn't try and bring in charcoal ( monument ) or similar , I would keep away from almost every other colour , so by a process of deduction , it would be white . Not even cream or beige or surfmist or grey . White haha ....See MoreCarole
