Layout of odd shaped kitchen/living&dining
Comments (6)If you don't use the dishwasher (or only use it rarely), then you could potentially put a large butchers block (with wheels) as a return from the dishwasher. If you were able to find one that was high enough, you could also get two stools to sit around it (but they should be small, slim and stackable to make extra room if required). Alternatively, you could position your "rustic table" close enough to the kitchen to service as additional bench space. As you have bench seating, the benches should easily fit under the table which means you'll be able to use the tabletop without bumping your knees on the chairs/benches. As others have said, rugs are a good and renter-friendly way to delineate living spaces. As the colours in the apartment are pretty neutral, you could inject colour into each of the designated living spaces through the rugs or you could instead highlight each area by choosing similarly neutral rugs, but with different sizes, materials and patterns. If you're buying all new furniture, then I'd just take it slowly and purchase the "key" pieces first (i.e. sofa, TV cabinet/stand and dining table) before worrying about the smaller items. This will give you a chance to pause and reflect as you add each item to the room. As it is quite a small space, I would suggest keeping the funriture and furnishings as "light and bright" as possible....See MoreHelp with long narrow living /dining room
Comments (9)A colourful throw over the "back" of the sofa would help to add a pop of colour and break up the "wall" of colour that the back of the sofa currently provides. I also like the other ideas for a low console table behind the table and something hanging above the fireplace on the brick wall. Depending upon powerponts, antenna cabling and your affection for the pendant light, you could completely flip the room and put the dining table near the fireplace, spin the sofa around so that the "seat" (and cushions, etc) face the entry and put the TV on the wall opposite the fireplace....See MoreL-shaped lounge room/dining room - help please!
Comments (5)You could flip the living 90 degrees to the left, making the tv along that longest wall but aligned more left obviously. Depending on how much you wanted to spend, you could invest in joinery which incorporates the tv and books, which then also adds massive amounts of storage. Could be too long of a space for this set up, but stretched out a little with a nice rug it could work well :) please show us pics when you decide!...See MoreOdd shape kitchen living dining area
Comments (12)I would build a sleek new TV cabinet to match your new kitchen cabinetwork along the full length of the wall under the air conditioner, which will visualy extend the space and make the kitchen and living area seem more integrated. Move the couch to the other side of the room, and have it about one metre off the study wall so that you can walk between the back of the couch and the study wall, which becomes a circulation space. If you have room add an open sided bookcase/room divider opposite the front door to give more definition to the entry and more seperation to the living area. Add a couple of pedestal based armchairs in the space between the new TV cabinetwork and couch, which can be moved and rotated around easily, with a large rug to anchor the living area.
