1980s L-shaped dining room
Comments (1)Hi Julie, We had an L-shaped dining/lounge room which we have turned into a tv 'nook' with a lounge and a tv. We closed off one of the entrances into the kitchen to do this....See MoreWhich room for what and layout help for dining and living rooms
Comments (20)Two years later... We ended up purchasing a 3-seater for wall opposite fireplace, a 2-seater for under the highlight window (leaves a comfortable space to enter the room) and an armchair placed diagonally opposite the couches. I've fooled the advice to pull the furniture in off the walls a little. We have just updated the fireplace with the (professional) installation of an insert wood heater and (DIY) replacement of hearth and tiles/timber mantel to conceal the brick while meeting the safety specifications of the heater (required a much wider/deeper hearth than the existing brick one so we removed and replaced with a slab of honed granite, and the minimum height for breastplate/mantel shelf posed a few design limitations). TV mounted above fireplace to allow for better furniture placement. Not quite the picture I had settled on 2 years ago, but works with the style of updates we have made elsewhere. Thank you for all the advice. before: After:...See MoreGalley kitchen vs L shaped kitchen
Comments (15)Thank you all for the comments!! It's really helpful! After few days of thinking and rethinking, plus doing experiments in the space, I think we will go with this: I am aware that this leaves us with small kitchen, but more then anything I hate being in a space with too much heavy stuff. For two of us, plus extra couple here and there I think it could be enough if we avoid single purpose appliances. If we feel that we really do need more kitchen space, I will move table to center and add another line of elements (galley kitchen)....See MoreOdd shape kitchen living dining area
Comments (12)I would build a sleek new TV cabinet to match your new kitchen cabinetwork along the full length of the wall under the air conditioner, which will visualy extend the space and make the kitchen and living area seem more integrated. Move the couch to the other side of the room, and have it about one metre off the study wall so that you can walk between the back of the couch and the study wall, which becomes a circulation space. If you have room add an open sided bookcase/room divider opposite the front door to give more definition to the entry and more seperation to the living area. Add a couple of pedestal based armchairs in the space between the new TV cabinetwork and couch, which can be moved and rotated around easily, with a large rug to anchor the living area.
