Comments (41)We have a similar home in a sydney beach suburb. We are in a different position where we have bought ours as a downsized but are just about to restore the old 50s beauty to its former self. We have quotes of around $400000 to gut and change the floor plan which includes 2 bathrooms and a new kitchen and also add internal stairs to the garage and a large deck off the back, lift some ceilings and replace gutters, eaves ect ect ect. Attached are my inspiration boards and what the house looks like now, hopefully in about 4 months I can update you....See MoreHome Reno
Comments (16)Today we had a builder come around to see how much it would cost. He did suggest making the lounge the kitchen the meals a study and the kitchen would become the meals area and family room would stay the same. He also suggested that the carport becomes a theatre room and to come out under the eves for the master bedroom. I do like the flow and we can then see onto our backyard, however I am not sure if I think resale will be easy with the kitchen being the front room that looks onto the street (even though we are 1/4houses in the street) and I just about died when he said ~$140000...See MoreI need ideas to modernise my new house
Comments (9)Hi Guys thank you so much for your input. Yes LouieT, meals is west and dining is north. We are in Perth with scorching late afternoon sun. Julienewans, we were thinking along similar lines: changing bed 3 into laundry, use part laundry for a butlers pantry. This opens up lounge, dining and part laundry for the kitchen and living area with meals. it also gives access to both north and south side of the house. The house is on a slab and games was added later. We also consider changing meals and kitchen to a guest with bathroom / powder room. This will have an outside entrance to be accessed from the to-be pool on the northern side. New entrance between current meals and family - this allows for a wider entrance. Keeping family as a study/library / reading area (taking out the bar). Our biggest concern is how to fit a kitchen into the space that flows easily from the walk-in pantry to the lounge / dining area....See MoreBathroom colour advice
Comments (13)Hello, Painting the tiles will only result in it scratching off and looking worse than when you begun. To upgrade the look of your space with minimal effort and cost I suggest the following: - Change the shower curtain to something more stylish - Change the light fixture to something more modern - Add blinds - white wood or light wood to tie in the white and hide the brown windows - Change the fixtures - towel rail, toilet roll holder, taps. You don't have to spend a fortune to bring the bathroom out of the past - You could DIY a box to hide the top of the toilet, creating the built-in look. New buttons on this plus creating space to decorate. You could do this in wood, paint it or any other material that is economic and suits your style. - Maybe paint the rest of the walls an antique white, the yellow tone in the existing walls is out of date and not very 'fresh' - New door handles - an easy way to accessorise a room Hope this helps!...See Moremaykezza
