Before deciding on a colour, don't forget to consider your kitchen cabinetry, benchtop, splashback, etc (and dining furniture)... for example, if you have a classic hamptons (farmer style) kitchen (and furniture) then don't discount a warm white for the walls... it won't look clinical as the warmth will come from the kitchen cabinetry, etc and dining furniture, e.g. But if you have a "hamptons inspired" look with a slightly more contemporary kitchen cabinetry (and furniture), then in my opinion (all nice options above but a bit too beige'ish for me) so I would suggest a light shade of a warm grey e.g. Whichever way you decide to go, try to narrow it down to 2-3 colours, get the small pot samples and paint each one on all the applicable walls as they will all look different at different angles depending on how they reflect natural daylight and the lights at night time... then you may be able to make a clearer decision. It's a dilemma because you know your stuck with it for years once it's on. We recently painted our cedar exterior. Started by agreeing on a general colour and then buying a series of sample pots. We finally decided on dulux colour bond dune. Amazing in itself as we rarely agree haa. It was a nice mix between beige and grey. We bought the 10 litre tin and went to work. After completing one wall I thought the paint was taking a while to dry as it wasn't getting as dark as the sample. My husband thought it was because of the lighting. I took a piece of wood and painted the sample which we loved and the paint from the 10 litre can together and yes they were a different shade. The hardware store had accidentally mixed the sample pot in double strength. It was all fixed up and we really love the result. So it was Dulux Colourbond Dune. I think it would be perfect with your roof colour.

Suggestions from neutral colours: https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/colour-trends/2018/essential Ceiling & walls the same colour is a good choice for square set. There will be subtle hue difference in various lighting situations anyway, which provides depth and makes for an interesting look.

Hi MaxCC, Your 'artwork' is called a wall niche. As far as I know, they were originally used to display religious icons, such as The Virgin Mary. I'm not religious but I do admit that I have a special love for wall niches. I have used them twice in homes that I've built as a place to display my 'Lamplighter' Lladro, so that he is on display to guest. The niches were always placed just inside the front entrance as yours is. Sadly I don't have any photos to show you, as we have just moved house and everything is still in storage. My suggestion, to help you with how to display the object that you will put into your niche, would be to keep the wall itself neutral but paint the niche in a metallic paint. Your want the object on display to be the item of greatest interest and the metallic paint [Resene have some wonderful colours to chose from] will help to draw your eye to that space.
