Best idea for surprising dad on Father's Day?
Comments (9)My husband rides a motorbike and for my father's 60th birthday he borrowed a slightly better motorbike to take my dad on a ride. It was a Honda Goldwing touring bike which is like a lounge chair for the pillion. We arranged to pick him up and the two 'boys' had a great time with my dad reliving his younger days when he used to ride a Triumph (no helmet back then either)...See MoreDo you have a retirement plan for your home?
Comments (31)We're already at the "old age" with problems stage, so have gradually adapted most areas to suit our limitations. What has amazed me is how suddenly the body changes have seemed to come all at once. We have a 4x2 on a quarter acre close to amenities, and I would hate not to have it. I love having all our varied fruit trees and raised garden beds, but admit I have a strong young man to help for 2 hours a week. Had spinal and knee ops last year which has limited what I can do. Bad part of getting old is the mind staying young - tells the body to do something beyond it's present state. Example is lifting a huge bag of fertiliser out of car boot. Result was spinal surgery, and being told that lifting heavy objects will put me back under the knife. The 1 thing left to do in the bathrooms is install higher toilets, as the knees don't bend so well any more. Walk in showers, bidet toilet seats, and heated bathrooms are a boon, and grab rails are well used. We have a small step to the patio, but have installed a ramp for that, otherwise we have no other steps. Rugs and carpet have been replaced with tile which is easier for using walking frame. Installed more and brighter lights for OH,s fading eyesight, and replaced our t.v. with a larger one. Have enclosed part of our huge patio to create a sunroom off the family room. This brings more warmth into it when the sliding doors are open, and we can vent the heat in the hotter summer months. Our next project is to replace our [only] 4 years old kitchen so we don't have to bend or stretch so much to reach what we need, especially all my appliances and gadgets. Now all we have to do is hope we live long enough to enjoy it lol !...See MoreComment to WIN: When have you gotten yourself in a pickle at home?
Comments (34)Long ago when I was in high school, we had a sports lesson doing hurdles. I loved it and secretly thought I was great at it. At the end of the lesson, we were sauntering back to class and I decided to show my friends once again how good I was. Now, hurdles must be approached from only one side. If you don't make it over, (from the right side)it smacks down. The other side doesn't move when hit. Well, I approached from the wrong side and had a little too much saunter and not enough pace, so didn't make it over. I hit it hard and the hurdle didn't budge. I was draped over the top in a horribly awkward position. Finger tips just off the ground on one side, toes just off the other side, bottom in the air, school uniform around my ears! Everyone gathered around laughing their heads off. Finally, after much laughter I was lifted off by my school mates. Lesson learnt, don't show off!...See MoreHow do you honour Anzac Day?
Comments (23)luvourhome, Anzac, Alberta was named in honour of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. In WWI, they surveyed the area around Waterways (Fort McMurray) in order to build the rail line there. Goods were taken to that point by train and then loaded onto barges to be delivered further north. I live about 4 hours away. I was there a few years ago. It was a very historic part of the area and very interesting. There were huge docks, where the barges would be loaded. Sadly, it has all been lost in the fire....See MoreUser
