You need to visaully make the room seem wider, and not as tall, and this can be achieved by the use of strong horizontal lines. I would suggest a slightly taller than standard shower screen, to match the height of your door architrave, and use the height of the top of the showerscreen as a line right around the room to tile up to, with painted wall above this tile line. Forget your herringbone pattern, especially in a small space as it will look busy and confused. Use a rectangular tile laid horizontally, either subway style, or grid pattern, to give more horizontal emphasis. In a small space I would keep features to a minimum, and use gloss wall tiles to bounce light around and give the illusion of more space.
