Need help with my fireplace
Comments (10)Oh dear! We have the same type of fireplace, except mine is double brick. I think you should definitely paint the cavities the same colour as the walls, the existing colour seems to chop it up and makes the area look smaller. I love the idea about the stone look wall paper around the fire. I would check with manufacturers instructions beforehand, fires put out a lot of heat and ash and my guess is that it would ruin the wall paper (you didn't mention if your fire was real or gas log). I think Mitre 10 and Bunning's sell a product that's stone cladding ( its DIY) you glue it onto the wall, it looks amazing. A timber mantle above the fire would also look great. My fireplace has shelving either side in the cavities, it seems to balance it out otherwise you have 2 great big empty areas. You could align the shelving or stagger them depending on what look your after. If you go with the shelving idea I would put a couple cushions each end of the cavities near the ledge to encourage people to sit. Fires are meant to be warm and inviting. Lastly I would put a rug in front of the fire to protect your carpet. Good luck! Make sure you post some pics....See MoreFIREPLACE HELP!!
Comments (40)You could have an awsome Halloween party with that fireplace, especially if you add the light fitting & table! If that doesn't appeal my advice is to first off get out the sage smudge sticks. :- )...See MoreHelp with awkward asymmetrical fireplace!
Comments (11)your other half is very cute but suggest that he sit on a lounge height chair and see how comfortable it would be to sit with his neck cricked to look up or sideways at an above the fireplace wall hung TV from the close distance in a relatively small room.. the wall next to the window would probably be more comfortable place for the TV with a lounge against the opposite wall and you could embrace the aysymmetry: leaving the space with the storage cupboard as a location for a single lounge chair and/or freestanding (lightweight) shelves or cabinet) and build shelves around the left hand side of the chimney to the window ...depending on what you want to store the shelves could be low with the TV wall hung (at an easy viewing height) or up to the picture rail with suitable alcoves for tv, books, music and display etc and consider a built in electric flame fire to enhance your fireplace...See Morehelp with fireplace surround please!
Comments (0)We have bought a gas fireplace and plan on closing this alcove in and placing it there, flueing out the side (meets all regs). Hoping for opinions on whether we set the fireplace back in a little or bring the wall out so it sits out from its walls either side. I am also thinking of a lower shelf beneath the fireplace as a feature. Also, any design tips as to what to style the wall - gyprock and paint a diff colour? Add stone feature wall? Thanks...See MorePJ Furniture
