I have read through the comments posted and I'm very amazed at how productive your followers are. Always looking for compromise, would it be possible to to face the two- seater couch toward the three-seater? I know it puts the two-seater back to the kitchen area but it would pull in the living area to one room. The sunroom behind seems to scream do something with me ( if only to make it a kids playroom). One or two chairs of smaller scale might be added to the open end of the couches. Or a low, wide bookcase that would feel like a faux divider and would add storage. Back to back bookcases would add heft and double the storage.

And to you, and to Chook too, of course. Sydney just has the best fireworks, doesn't it? Though I'm glad that Mr Dog and I don't live there. It'll be rough enough here. I would turn your rug around so the long side is across the fireplace. Turn your sofa to face the e fireplace with front feet of sofa on the rug. Turn your coffee tables too. Put an arm chair each side facing each and squared to the sofa. Not angled. With front feet on rug. Put the console hard along the back of the sofa. Some lamps either end of console would be great but might be tricky for power. You could put the 3rd hexagon side table to the side of the sofa furthest from the dining room. Consider a statement pendant over coffee tables. You need some colour, texture and pattern with cushions. Add some books, a tray and some kind of vessel to the coffee tables. I think that artwork in the comment just above is perfect. Don't make accent colours all exactly the same as too matchy matchy. If you like purple go with complimentary hues and include pattern.

I had 3 female joeys and two bedrooms which led to constant 2 -v- 1 situations so nights were generally a game of musical beds. There was always one child who needed time out or was given time out. When we added the extra bedroom, the serenity was bliss. They could still share when they wanted but it was all up to them, it was not forced on them so relationships definitely improved after that. I think the age of the children and the age difference is a very important aspect. Younger children are more than happy to share for the security and comfort when the lights go out. Older children need their space and privacy especially for study. Children after puberty can get extremely sensitive about their bodies and need privacy more than ever in this adjustment period. You cannot expect to put say an 8 year old with a 3 year old - by 8 kids are usually developing attachments to "special" keepsakes, something 3 year olds don't understand and this can cause a lot of resentment when things get broken or trashed. Pre children I always felt them sharing bedrooms would lead to wonderful relationships, the children would learn to share, care and appreciate each other. Now I'm older and wiser, separate bedrooms is sanity for everyone.
