If you cannot paint the walls, can you paper them? There are ways to create an interesting look if neither of those options are available.. You could buy some really large canvases and paint those and then hang them.. Even if they are the same colour or similar to the walls they will offer texture and something interesting on the walls... You could create a very uniform arrangement or do something unexpected... or develop a theme over time..

With the dark furniture.. It might be possible to mix and match similar design in a different colour or perhaps paint the desk or little cupboard.. They may even be available in a lighter colour or different finish.. Grey is a nice idea too especially with Teal.. (image below)

The bedding in your picture.. will pretty much determine what goes in the room with this being quite a dominant colour and pattern.. If you wanted to be more neutral.... choose a single colour on the bed..

Teal and Grey work really nicely though and perhaps think of a slightly plainer look for the bed... This gives you more room really to switch things up.. Have found a nice image where the bedding is white with a bedspread or throw and a cushion for accent colour! (TKMaxx do have some fabulous bedding.. Crisp linen or 100% cotton sheets, pillowcases are a must!! A bedspread folded at the foot of the bed in a bright teal could really work with a contrast blanket.. Simple but quite bold and sophisticated!

A simple addition of colour means that you can have a cushion cover and bedspread in a range of colours to suit.. whilst the main bedding remains white.. .... :))
