Colour selection for living area TV wall

Hi Everyone,

Very confused with the colour selection for the tv wall in the living area, please make some suggestion?

Why not try a dark charcoal or black, these colours behind the TV will not detract from the TV when you are watching it.

hi, just a suggestion. if you have the budget, beickwalls design will be nice. if not painting earth colours will also be nice. maybe you want to browse houzz.com for more ideas. happy browsing.

I would go to a material shop and choose a very colourful fabric ( Bird Of Paradise pattern or Palms ) turn it into a very large picture by either framing or doing a wall hanging. This should set the colour ideas for the room

Doh! Just saw your BR study pix! I wouldn't personally want to repeat the same area, but if you love it, you can. I'd want art. Even black & white art or photos. Something that speaks to you personally so your home doesn't look like a showplace - but like your Home! lol My only other thought is that you don't want it to look too safe - like you couldn't make any decsiions so you just did everything in either black or white. You want the design to look purposeful. Search Houzz for black & white living rooms & you'll find lots of inspiration (which you probably have doen already!). Just for fun, I've attached a couple of pix of an arc lamp we have in our apartment. The globe is glass & my DH hit his head on it & broke it once. That's why it's not really properly placed but is too close to the wall! lol Live & learn! That's the only way to make it in life!

Thanks all for the suggestions! White ceiling really makes sense thanks Helen. I would not have thought to do that but as i sat out there over the weekend it makes perfect sense. At this stage I'll stick to repainting the deck as well due to the cost but long term I'll definitely be looking at sanding or replacing the timbers of the deck. With all the dark colours it really does have an oppressive feeling and i almost feel like i need to hunch over as i walk through so lightening up the colour scheme is definitely the way to go. And yes Angela those blind will be going :)

Well lets face it, you electro add some colour. If you you have brown furniture, or grey you still need to lift this room up. Go to the paint shop and get sample cards and bring them home and spread them around. There's a lovely soft peach shade , think it's called coral...it is stunning if the room is filled with neutral tones. It is a back drop colour, same to be said for any colour. The trick is to soften these colours, we don't want something that screams at you. Come on, be game give it a go and add that colour to the wall...you will be very happy.

Sorry to be the one to break this to you Jaspreet, but you don't appear to actually own a TV...

The advice will partly depend on the size of TV if you acquire one - but the spot says "Wallpaper!" to me, plus plant, or at least a stronger colour than the wall.

I agree that Charcoal is a great choice on wall colour.

Sorry but colour is very personal. I would stay neutral, by going triple strength to the colour you already have, just in that boxed area. That way your wall is not the statement - your furniture and whatever your rug you put down and window furnishings are.

Don't go too out there or you will end up with an outdated room too quickly. Think ugly 80's pink that was all the rage and stick to dressing it up with furnishings. If the wall is too busy with a wallpaper you will regret it.

You need to choose a colour that pleases you but the inside wall of that alcove does lend itself to a feature. If you want more than just paint colour there are paintable wallpapers that add an embossed look to a wall and you paint over that. Check out Bunnings.

Manys thanks everyone for the comments and ideas, I am very keen to go with grey or charcoal colour, we did had a wallpaper guys come in and had a look at lot of different styles, patterns and colour as well but it none appealed to us.

You have two options - a wall to make the TV disappear or a wall that is the feature in the room. I think the space lends itself to wood.

Whatever colour or style you choose to go with, my advice is make sure that it's matt. Personally, with your red rug and dark furniture a deep red/maroon wall could look stunning and help create zones in the room.

Looks good, now you can accessorise in your choice of colours for mats, pictures, vases etc, then in years to come whenever you feel the need for a change, all you do is change your accessory colours and you will find a whole new room.
