Yay or Nay? TV in the kitchen
Comments (16)@harryinahurry, I agree with you as there are only two of us too. I think the very negative or passionate "No's" have come from people predominantly with children and that's certainly fine, as of course parents would want to interact with their children but the other thing is, that I don't watch mindless shows like soapies, I too like the news and informative programs like Insight, Landline etc...etc...and if you have opted like me at times to have a cooking day when it's cold and miserable outside or too darn hot to step outside, then a good tv show and the smell of freshly cooked muffins go together like wine and cheese ha-ha Cheers, Barbara...See MoreAre farmhouse sinks overrated?
Comments (151)We have four farmhouse style sinks in two different houses, and all present the same problem. It doesn't have anything to do with the material as two sinks are concrete, one stainless steel, and one composite stone. With the two kitchen sinks it's very frustrating spraying out the food particles from corner to corner. Food particles go from one side to the other, and it's very difficult to corral them to the drain. The two concrete bathroom sinks don't have enough slope, so when shaving and brushing teeth, the water and material flow to the opposite side of the sink. It's annoying to wash a 3' wide sink every time it's used. And gross if the sink isn't cleaned from side to side after every use. As a compromise, we're installing a farmhouse concrete bathroom sink with two drains and more slope. As I evaluate many things in life, a, farmhouse sink is a solutions looking for problem....See MoreYay or nay? Toilet showers!
Comments (49)Well here we are yet again! I've not changed my opinion. The toilet-loo-privy- whatever one wants to call it needs a room of its own. Makes no sense to me having a "privacy wall" behind which to hide the pedestall if it is placed in a shower or full bathroom...the locked bathroom door is all that's needed. Seems to me that the concept of a separate toilet room or "Powder Room" (Why that title is anyone's guess)...was a sensible and accepted concept of homes in the 50's. It wasn't in need of any "polite" title, it was simply referred to as "The Toilet"..meaning basically -".where to freshen up". My idea of a perfectly sensible toilet is a separate little room housing the pedestal (toilet bowl) and a little basin with running water. Optional- a paper hand towel dispenser or one of those blowers...or a small towel rack and/or a nook for toilet paper...mabye to accomodate wet wipes in the absence of a basin or even where there's a basin....a nice comfy little Toilet Room.....See MoreTV and wood heater on same wall? Or not??
Comments (21)Thanks for the additional info and photos, EL, and what a clever husband to construct the model! If it were me, I would install the heater on the wall in sitting/dining room. I say this location as it is tucked away a little better than the location behind kitchen wall, and seems safer (for people walking past it when in use), to me anyway. The TV could be placed or mounted next to it, but far enough away so heat doesn't affect it in any way (not sure if that's a consideration). My folks had a large wood burning stove installed in their old house long ago, to replace the original fireplace. My mother used to cook large pots of homemade soups on the top of it, letting them simmer all day long - the aromas were amazing. Your house project is exciting. Best wishes....See MoreMichael Rivas
